“Back Again for a Week”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

Normally on holiday we find that after three to four days in one place we get the urge to move on. This time for our third visit to Bayview we decided to try a full 7 days.
Yes it was great.
The hotel has had considerable changes since our last visit four years ago and we consider that it may be overcrowded during the peak season hence our stays in April. At this time of the year the weather is still great and the whole of Ngapali very quiet but many local restaurants being closed.
For a place to relax you would find it difficult to find a more relaxing place than Ngapali and in particular Bayview.
On each of our visits we bring articles of clothing and books etc for the local people arriving with excess baggage and leaving with an empty suitcase.
The staff and local people are all so willing to please, nothing is done without a smile.
Wifi is now available at the reception area and this removes the previous isolation.
We feel that we should return at least one more time before the world learns of the wonderful relaxing holidays that may be had at Ngapali Beach.
To finish I must add one growing negative and this is the amount of rubbish that is ever increasing. A stream near to hotels at the Bayview end of the beach would not be tolerated in any non third world country and unless improvements are made the future may not be as bountiful as it could be.

Room Tip: A beach front room is a must.

We stayed 4 days at Bayview in early April 2012 and had a great time. Beautiful broad beach with daily sandcrab art installation on the tidal plane. All that Sisyphus-like work being wiped out by every rising tide.

A familiy of five, we had two beachfront rooms with a small private terrace. High quality, clean and well kept. As everywhere in Myanmar staff very friendly and helpful. New manager from Turkey attentive to his guests. Good breakfast at the pool restaurant. The beachfront bar/restaurant served colorful drinks ( afternoon happy hour) and good lunch and dinner, although there were plenty of alternative options right outside the hotel and in the village.

Free bicycle rent for interesting rides to nearby villages and along the beach. We arranged a fun boat trip with a guy at the beach, buying fish offshore from local fisherman beeing grilled at nearby island restaurant and served absolutely fresh. Great time, even if snorkeling was poor.

The place will see rapid development. Go now!

Room Tip: Beachfront is better

After touring Myanmar we stayed a week at this wonderful hotel. Our room opened directly on to one of the most beutiful beaches that we have every visited. The room and the hotel generally was faultless. But the best thing about the hotel was the marvellous staff, who were always charming and helpful.

It was a week in paradise.....

Room Tip: The rooms on the beach are quiet and the views are wounerful.

We stayed here at the end of March / early April 2012 and had a wonderfully relaxing time. We had one of the beach front rooms, but the garden rooms are the same size and have a little more privacy if not a view to the sea. If you're looking for a lot of action, this is not the place to come, but if you want some peace and quiet, it is perfect. It is at the quieter end of Ngapali beach which is great during the day, but we found it a little frustrating in the evenings as most of the good restaurants are at the other end close to the Sandoway / Amata Hotels. Still, most of the restaurants there will arrange to come to collect you if you make a reservation during the day. Take one of the free bicycles from the hotel (one of the only hotels to offer both free bicycle and free internet service) and make the arrangements. The food at the hotel is very good, and offers a good alternative for a quick lunch at the beach on the Sunset Bar. After a while though, the menu is a bit limited. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. The spa prices are very reasonable.

Be aware that the very efficient German Manager, Ole, has just left and been replaced by a new guy from Turkey. This has already resulted in some staff changes, so not sure how things may change here next year. Some rooms do need to be renovated.

If it stays the same, can highly recommend it for a relaxing, quiet beach holiday, but they are going to have increased competition from the new Ngapali Beach Villas, and from the more conveniently located and established Sandoway and Amata Hotels. The Amazing hotel close to the airport looks good too, but is a little remote, as is the new luxury Amara Ocean Resort.

Room Tip: Take only the beach front rooms or those in the garden, not the rooms in the main building as they a...

We booked two rooms for two nights in March through the internet on short notice(,one week)And was surprise to find that the resort was just the only one with rooms available that was bookable on the internet either on own website or through on line agent. But on arriving at Ngapali and stopping by nice resorts,we found that they have rooms vacant but you have to contact them directly,by phone as internet connection are unreliable and they probably do not answer back! They usually are bookable through travel agents who have regular contact with them. Booking on your own through internet is still not usually done in Myanmar.
The resort has about 30 rooms,approx.12 on the beach front. For those has beach front ,its nice but for those that has the second roll, less can be said, since there is no view.So I suggest only book the beach front or choose others that have them.
Service was adequate as not much should be expected as Myanmar is still in its infancy in catering to foreign tourist.Food was ok.But would recommend eating out .Fresh food restaurants that offer BBQ cooking are good choice esp. on the price and freshness.
The resort offers adequate western standard of cleanliness and English communication as it is managed by a foreign management company,German,I believe. The whole Ngapali beach area has a very lay back atmosphere something that you do not find in developed parts of the world.

We stayed here for 5 days in March 2012.This was our relaxing place after ten fabulous days touring Myanmar. We were a group of 30 elderly Norwegians, and we had a marvellous time. As we were so many, the staff lay tables for us every night in the sand on the beach. They also made a bonfire for us on the beach. The food was excellent and we enjoyed this so much that we are already planning to go here another time. The only trouble was heat, but we cannot blame the hotel for that. They had good airconditioning. The staff was extremely helpful.
The spa part was very good and much cheaper than any other hotel we went to

Room Tip: We had the least expensive rooms, but next time we will have rooms in the first row. As those have a...

I live in Myanmar right now, and this was my second trip to Ngapali. The first time I stayed at the Amazing Resort, which was super nice (see my review for that stay). But some of my friends stayed at Bayview and enjoyed it. So, for my second trip to Ngapali I asked my travel agent to book Bayview. However, Bayview had only "garden view" rooms, so I booked two nights at Ngapali Bay Villas "sea view" ($175/night) (this is a new hotel) and then two nights at Bayview "garden view room" ($160/night). After I had an amazing time at Ngapali Bay Villas for 2 days having half a bungalow to myself with the view of the ocean, privacy, superb service, and so many other wonderful details, my friend and I moved to Bayview. It was a complete shock to see the difference in everything. The room was on the first floor of a two-storey building with the second floor room balcony hanging over the door of our room thus blocking the sunlight. The "garden view" meant 5 plants growing on the knee-high-wall in front of the window. Behind that knee-high wall there was a path that all other guests had to go through to get to their rooms. And then, behind that path, there was another higher wall that blocked the ocean view completely. This is truly unfortunate as the two other hotels in Ngapali I stayed at had beautiful sea views from all rooms and the price of rooms is practically the same or lower than Bayview! In addition to no view and no sunlight, there was a generator or something like that behind a transparent door that constantly buzzed At another hotel I had the sound of the surf, not the generator. Outside the room, the things were not that much better - the beach chair situation was horrible - there were chairs only under the palm trees, so no parasols on the beach, and the chairs had about 1/2 meters only in between, so you would be laying down right next to strangers practically touching them. I could be fine with this arrangement somewhere in Europe where beaches are crowded, but in Ngapali there is really no reason for that. At two other hotels I stayed in Ngapali I had a beach chair to myself on the actual beach with a parasol and there was 6-7 meters distance between the sets of chairs. I actually feel bad for those people who booked "seaview" rooms here as their balconies face this sad beach chair situation (other hotels have tiered landscaping so you see the see from your room, not dozens of people). I actually could not even figure out where I'd like to sit/lay down to relax as the beach chairs were inadequate, the room was a dungeon, and the patio in front of the room was in the face of all those guests passing by to their rooms.

Needless to say there was no way I could stay here after I had a true Ngapali beach experience at other hotels. I told the management that I was leaving and asked if I could have some refund, at least for one night. To that the assistant manager, without any emotion, told me that there was no chance for that and that they would keep my $320 even if they sold the rooms. No surprise here - the place is managed like a factory, not a luxury resort. I left it as it was and went to a much better hotel for the same price. I lost money, but it was all worth it.

In conclusion, if you do not know what you can get in Ngapali and are offered Bayview, you might enjoy it if you compare it to some other place somewhere else. But for Ngapali this is a very bad choice...I am hoping to let as many people as possible know that.

Room Tip: Maybe second floor rooms would have light and sea view. The rooms by the sea are very sad...

“We would like to apologize for the unpleasant experiences that you had during your recent stay with us. We immediately investigated on the case and would like share our investigation results with you:
Upon your departure you unfortunately informed us that the reason for leaving our resort was that you wanted to stay close by your friends who were accommodated in another hotel in Ngapali. You did not explain anything to us about your concerns stated here at Tripadvisor. Therefore we didn’t have a chance to prove that we always take care and try to satisfy our guests, especially if there are negative reviews and comments. Regarding your cancellation fee we would advise you to take the official way via your travel agency to have a chance to get a refund from us. We feel very sorry that we could not convince you of our high service and quality standards and our nice spacious sloping beach which our guests generally enjoy.
We would sincerely like to invite you to stay with us once again for your next trip to Ngapali and give us the opportunity of taking care and making things up for you.
Yours sincerely, BAYVIEW - the beach resort management “
