It was very hard to choose a hotel in Ngapali, just from the internet, but fortunately I chose the Sandoway. What a great hotel!! The beach is GORGEOUS, and the bungalows very comfortable and nice. The only rooms we could get was a deluxe, (which is in the back) but it was wonderful. Ours was room 34, which was near the pool and the bar and library. There is a sitting area downstairs, with a desk and sofa, and the bed is upstairs, complete with mosquito netting. The grounds are beautiful.

Wi-fi was good, but only in the bar area and dining/reception area.

Staff were great, so polite and nice. We rented bikes and rode all over, on the road and on the beach. The first night we ate at the hotel and it was very good. I had the pasta (chef is Italian) and it was super delicious. My husband had grilled tiger shrimp which were excellent. For the other 3 nights, we opted to walk out of the hotel turn left and go to Family Restaurant. YUM!!! Delicious, every night, and less than $20 for two each night. The eggplant salad is amazing, as is the grilled barracuda, tiger shrimp curry and the special Myanmar cucumber salad. The restaurant is very clean, and the service is excellent. Ask for Tony, the very friendly co-owner, a Myanmar man who speaks great English and is very proud (justifiably) of his restaurant.

We had massages in a little hut further up the beach, near the Thande hotel. Smack on the beach, bamboo huts with views of the ocean. Price was $12 for one hour.

One day we rented a boat to go snorkeling, and to visit a fishing village. The snorkeling was not much, but the boat trip was fun. The cost was $20 for about 3 hours.

If you face the beach and turn right, there is a little restaurant right on the beach, just close to the hotel. The owner is very nice, and the food was good, once we got it...it took about an hour to get our grilled fish! But we were in no hurry, and enjoyed reading our books, looking at the gorgeous beach and drinking our Myanmar beer. There are lots of little restaurants on the beach further up, and they looked great. Just didn't have the time to go to them.

We did look at other hotels, and I really was glad we chose Sandoway. The next best one was probably Ngapali Bay Villas, a little bit north. Very nice rooms. I did not like the Amata or the Aureum...too dark and overdone.

Room Tip: Almost any room is good. Even the ones in the back, like we had, are great. We did not hear any road noise.

By far the best resort on Ngapali Beach. We had a Sea View Villa and as an interior designer I must say the villas are exquisitely appointed and thought through. Could have done with a few more drawers in the dressing room but otherwise fabulous. Having your own appointed beach umbrella and deck chairs is wonderful. You don't have to think about not finding a space if you happen to be a bit late in getting up. The restaurant is very good, but quite expensive, however, Two Brothers Restaurant accross the road is fantastic value for money. Sandoway must be carefull not to out- price itself though, the resort is VERY pricy for Myanmar!
Having said that, I will still return as the alternatives don't come near to what it offers.

Charming hotel with lovely rooms. Each room has a nice view and are well decorated. However, the service could be improved ( the local staff seems unsatisfied with the working conditions) and, like us, you may have the misfortune, one evening, to meet a huge rat running in your bedroom! Do not even expect to receive any commercial gesture from the management!

We arrived at Sandoway after a long and weary tour in Myanmar, just looking for a real relaxing place. But we didn't expect to have so great experience in a beautiful beach, with excellent services and food (The young chef indulges in the preparation of traditional Italian dishes with light Asian touch). Everything exceed our expectations, and we feel like home, with all comforts. The resort is designed in all details, from the cottages to all activity areas. Moreover, the end of year event was perfectly organized and managed. Noteworthy is the menu 'and the wine list to compete with the best Italian restaurants.
Our satisfaction is much much greater than the cost.

Well we had read the reviews and were certainly not disappointed, after a hectic few days in Yangon we were ready for total retaliation and the sandoway certainly offered that. We had one of the terraced villas at the back, it was absolutely lovely, if I stayed again though I would definitely stretch to the beach front villas. the pool was lovely, but the beach fantastic! the pool restaurant also makes a great macchiato. Food at the hotel was v good and quite reasonable. Unfortunately my hubby had a bit of sun stroke for a couple of days but there is a little medical centre across the road which was really good and they only ask for a donation to cover the cost of the medicines. Internet very hit and miss, but don't waste time with that you can read and stroll along the beach instead, get there before it gets too busy!!!!
