When I arrived at laguna lodge I was a bit disappointed, since I thought there could be more to this place. Some decorative extras, some more "love in detail" to the rooms, the restaurant and the bar.
Yet I loved the quietness of the place and the fact, that this seemed one of the only places along the beach which is a) affordable b) without large tourist groups c) a real travelers place... and in fact, I met the most interesting travelers at this place.
Unfortunately the German owner, Oliver, only came back on my last day. He is a great chef and spoils the guests with his cooking. I got the most delicious chocolate pancake ever just before I left as a goodbye trial of his cooking! Thanks Oliver so much!! I will come back for the Sashimi for sure...
After spending a night out together with him and his Austrian manager, Jochen,
I realized there might be all this decorative extras missing in the lodge, but he has been supporting the people of myanmar ever since he came to Myanmar 17 years ago. He is focussing on that, which made the place even more precious to me.
If you do not want to spend 180 USD a night and are happy to live in a basic place (but with great food and for sure a hot shower and a clean room) I can highly recommend this place. Jochen, his Austrian manager, took us also to the fish market and the local villages which is quite a contrast to the beach life. Thanks!
Also the massage ladies at the beach are great! I can recommend the Rakhine Massage 90 min!!
