Pleasant View Resort
Ranked #9 of 19 Hotels in Ngapali

Reviewed December 11, 2011

Pleasant View Resort is a very nice boutique hotel right on the beach with two types of accommodations: stand alone bungalows and a two-story building with upper and lower rooms. Rooms in the two-story building share common walls. The bungalows are nicer and afford more privacy. All rooms and bungalows are steps from the beach. The materials used in decorating the rooms are simple and understated. PVR is a great place to relax. The beach is beautiful and the water is unbelievably warm. PVR is not a high-end, luxurious resort like Amata, but it's charming, clean and peaceful. This is a small hotel without a swimming pool and organized activities. If this is your idea of paradise, look no further.

The manager is very warm and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. Staff was also very accommodating. Housekeeping came twice a day, which was great given the proximity to the sand.

Breakfast is served in a simple outdoor dining area. There is also a restaurant on the islet nearby which is a beautiful setting. Prices seem higher than at the many restaurants that line the road. (Had great meals at Zaw II and Two Brothers. The seafood at both was tremendous. Most restaurants in Myanmar use MSG, which they call "seasoning powder". If you don't want MSG on your food, say these magic words: Hin Cho Hmont Mitened. Not sure about the exact translation, but it does the trick.)

Be sure to check out The Beach Massage, just south of Amata. A smart entrepreneur set up a thriving business offering massage under the palm trees for a very reasonable price. Great ambiance just steps from the beach, but if you go late in the day, kids play volleyball right in front of the massage stand. For a more peaceful massage, go before 4:00pm. Had wonderful Thai massage three days in a row! (Preferred Thai to Myanmar style massage.)

This is the southernmost hotel on Ngapali Beach. We were told that there are plans to develop the beach to accommodate more tourists and new hotels are in the works. Currently, PVR feels like it's separated a bit from the other hotels as one side is next to a village. You can rent bicycles from the hotel and visit the village. You can even buy fresh fish directly from the fisherman's boats and take them back to the hotel for cooking.

My only complaint is that trucks come daily to pick up the fish from the boats in the late afternoon adjacent to the hotel. They drive in circles on the beach with their motors running continuously for hours as they load up on fish.

During my run- away trip from massive flooding in Bangkok, I accidentally found a paradise on beach. No swimming pool, no luxury but PVR’s charms are from serene location, seafront bungalows, minimalist decoration, good food, super friendly staff and fluffy towels . The restaurant on an islet made my stay memorable. As requested by a lady guest, PVR held a surprising birthday celebration to her boyfriend. The manager played guitar and staff sang HPBD song. Very terrific! I was shared some BD cake as well. PVR is like love ballads calling me to listen again and again.

We loved our stay at PVR. We had a sea-view bungalow and it was great - looking great both from outside and inside: lots of wood (but not to the point where it looks gloomy), big patio, where we spent a lot of time reading, spacious room, great looking bathroom with skylights and a fresh coat of paint... There wasn't anything we didn't like!
The staff in superb - housekeeping came twice a day (!), in the evening they would spread the mosquito net over our bed making is very cozy and in the morning they would put it away. Our room was always very clean. The breakfast was plentiful and even included soup, which I appreciated. It was served in a small outdoor area that looked very romantic.
The management is great - general manager was there to help us with any issue (including playing guitar and singing Happy Birthday to my fiancee, which was very touching). The restaurant is a bit pricey so opt for Two Brothers instead (7 minute walk from the hotel). If feeling lazy - there's a local restaurant directly on the beach in direction of Amata and a cheaper restaurant in neighbouring Royal Beach motel.

Very nice and kind people welcomes you in the best location of the Ngapali beach. A small island is the pearl of the beach. The sea is alive and full of fishes and the food is delicious. On the south side there is a fishermen village where people work and live in a simple and natural way and kids perform their happy games. There is a lot to learn and the level of "poetry" is always high!

We traveled to Ngapli Beach just before Christmas 2010 without any reservations and were surprised to find a lot of availability at almost every resort. After having seen all resorts within the same price range, we easily considered this one to be the best and could even (down-) negotiate our walk in rate. Unitl just recently, the Pleasant View consisted only of 12 bungalows, but have now extended their accommodations by 16 rooms within double storey buildings. All rooms have sea view and are quite spacious. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. This hotel has a restaurant on a cliff, which is quite atmospheric and also serves good food, but is a little bit on the expensive side. Accross from the hotel (on the street) is the newly opened Ngapali Kitchen restaurant. Delicious food, reasonable prices and very hospitable owners. The hotel is situated at the end of the long beach right next to a fishermen village. This village is still very authentic and absolutely worthwhile visiting. Unfortunately, I have seen a few tourists walking there dressed in just their swim suits. I found this quite insensitive considering how the locals normally dress. We are still guests (as tourists) in this wonderful country.

Peaceful and relaxing. Located at the end of all the resorts and from what we saw probably best location we felt. Rooms where simple and fuctional. We stayed in the 2 storey seaview room. With amazing and peaceful view of the the sea only steps away. Agent met us a Yangon for payment and arrangement for pick-up at Thandwe airport confirmed Restraunant on a little island which was amazing to watch sunset from too.
Able to rent bikes to ride along beach or thru village 1000 kyats ( You can ride thru the village then to another beach at the end walk up a small road to the buddha statue for hilltop view). Internet use (laptop at front desk only) 1000 kyats. Able to rent scooter but didnt check price.
Cons
Staff not very informative. If you dont ask you won't find out. We were not told the Internet wasn't free to our surprise at check out. The little ants are here too just like alot of places in South Asia but not an issue just don't leave food out. Also they turn off the room electricity 7am-2pm so if you have to charge your camera battery be aware, but they did turn it on when I asked with no problems.
