Pleasant View Resort is a very nice boutique hotel right on the beach with two types of accommodations: stand alone bungalows and a two-story building with upper and lower rooms. Rooms in the two-story building share common walls. The bungalows are nicer and afford more privacy. All rooms and bungalows are steps from the beach. The materials used in decorating the rooms are simple and understated. PVR is a great place to relax. The beach is beautiful and the water is unbelievably warm. PVR is not a high-end, luxurious resort like Amata, but it's charming, clean and peaceful. This is a small hotel without a swimming pool and organized activities. If this is your idea of paradise, look no further.
The manager is very warm and helpful and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. Staff was also very accommodating. Housekeeping came twice a day, which was great given the proximity to the sand.
Breakfast is served in a simple outdoor dining area. There is also a restaurant on the islet nearby which is a beautiful setting. Prices seem higher than at the many restaurants that line the road. (Had great meals at Zaw II and Two Brothers. The seafood at both was tremendous. Most restaurants in Myanmar use MSG, which they call "seasoning powder". If you don't want MSG on your food, say these magic words: Hin Cho Hmont Mitened. Not sure about the exact translation, but it does the trick.)
Be sure to check out The Beach Massage, just south of Amata. A smart entrepreneur set up a thriving business offering massage under the palm trees for a very reasonable price. Great ambiance just steps from the beach, but if you go late in the day, kids play volleyball right in front of the massage stand. For a more peaceful massage, go before 4:00pm. Had wonderful Thai massage three days in a row! (Preferred Thai to Myanmar style massage.)
This is the southernmost hotel on Ngapali Beach. We were told that there are plans to develop the beach to accommodate more tourists and new hotels are in the works. Currently, PVR feels like it's separated a bit from the other hotels as one side is next to a village. You can rent bicycles from the hotel and visit the village. You can even buy fresh fish directly from the fisherman's boats and take them back to the hotel for cooking.
My only complaint is that trucks come daily to pick up the fish from the boats in the late afternoon adjacent to the hotel. They drive in circles on the beach with their motors running continuously for hours as they load up on fish.
