Phonsavan is located at an average elevation of 1100m and this hotel is located on a hill about 1300m.
I find the hotel rather charming. A small terrace with table & chairs outside my room with great views. Also, great views at the breakfast restaurant.
The hotel is rather basic but there is water heater for the shower and hair dryer provided. TV in room. Wifi available only at the lobby. No electric kettle to boil water.
It can be dark at night with not much lighting, so do bring a torchlight.
Also, the temperature really dipped at night (think 10 Deg Celsius), so do bring warm clothing! There is no heating provided in the room.

We enjoyed our experience here. Beds were a bit hard but got used to it by the second night! Staff were friendly and helpful. Great views and location , short and interesting walk to town, not a problem. Torch at night. We were met at airport, which was not booked, so that was very nice. The driver/guide, Tong, spoke excellent English. We hired Tong (856)02055875589 (Saibadee Travel) for two days of sightseeing . This experience was unique and unbelievable as Tong took us to major attractions but also off the beaten track and we learnt so much about culture, history, and daily life which was the highlight of our time in Laos. Due to travel sickness history, we also hired Tong to drive us to Luang Prabang. If in Phonsovan, RING TONG!!

Room Tip: **no swimming pool or fitness centre - just couldn't get rid of dots!!!

Chalet style, torches provided. Clean where it matters! Great views and own balcony. Service in restaurant fine if you pre order. Wide menu available. Large interesting public area Charming staff tend to wear fluffy slippers. good hot showers but oh dear the beds were hard. I pulled back the sheets to check there was a mattress!!! Even so, slept well

Room Tip: dogs bark continuously. Ask for room away from view if you want it to be quiet.

bungalows where you definitely have your own privacy. The rooms are quite clean and the beds are quite comfortable.

The restaurant is very disappointing and the hotel is out of the way and of you want to go out, you have no other option that to walk about 20 minutes to the nearest restaurant. If you do that, don't forget to bring a torch with you because the road that leads to the main road is filled with potholes and is not lit at night.

Service is inexistent and breakfast is of the poorest quality unimaginable.

We stayed here as it was the best but we found it a little too far out of the action, which we had read posted here but we generally take the reviews with a grain if salt. However great views and clean but a bit out of the way, we walked downhill on the dirt road into town 10 mins. Getting home after 8 pm is a challege as the tuk tuks disappear and we didnt feel like walking up hill in the dark and dust. Organise your transport home with your restaurant they should have a tuk tuk that can wait for you and take you home. We got lift on the back of the restaurant owners employees bikes one night and the next night we organised a tuk tuk.

The road into the hotel makes you wonder where you are going but the views once you arrive are amazing! It's a shame that the service doesn't match this. Most of the staff are friendly but service is slip shod and our first experience at check in relly left us wondering what we had got into. Once we reached the room our impressions changed as we had a sitting room, large bedroom and bathroom, complete with bath, and the view from our terrace was great. Breakfast on our first morning was truly awful - stone cold buffet but improved greatly on the next 2 mornings with table service although I never risked the coffee again. On the subject of coffee whilst they advertise tea and coffee making facilities there was no tea or coffee (take your own ).
The intentions are good but a lack of competition and probably visitors means service suffers. Having said that it's probably the best option in Phonsovanh at the present time. Hotel does offer a free taxi into town, Choi the driver does a great deal to improve the service level in the hotel

Room Tip: Take a vip room if possible

Me and my wife stayed for two nights here on our last trip (to Northern Laos) in September. And this hotel really has the potential to provide a very pleasant stay in Phonsavan: it has a good location over the city (although the road, on its last 500m, is terrible), nice and spacious bungalows and the hotel itself has nice gardens and common spaces. But, probably due to the lack of clients, the service is poor and the rooms are not particularly well maintained... Nevertheless, it is probably one of the best choices in Phonsavan!
