The Riverside Garden Bungalows is far from perfect, but for the cost it is the best combination of peaceful and convenient in Vang Vieng.
The bungalows are located on the north end of Vang Vieng, just far enough out of town so you're not bothered by the music from the bars, tuk tuk and bike motors, and construction noise. But it's still within easy walking distance to town and close to plenty of great restaurants and bars.
I got a fan-only bungalow with shared bathroom for 70,000 kip. I never felt the need for AC, and it actually got quite cool at night. The unobstructed view of the mountains from the bungalow porch was magnificent. The bed was rock-hard but clean. The wiring in the bungalow was quite poor. If there was too much load on the circuit the outlet would start to arc. So sometimes you had to choose between having lights and charging your phone.
The bathrooms were about average for SE Asia, with individual electric-powered water heater shower units and low water pressure. Cleanliness was not superb but, again, pretty average for SE Asia.
Staff was friendly but unhelpful in quashing a loud party being thrown by other guests. Breakfast is not included and there is no restaurant. There is a swimming pool but it was broken when I was there. Wifi is good enough for casual browsing, around 1.5 Mbps. Security was OK, the bungalow window...The Riverside Garden Bungalows is far from perfect, but for the cost it is the best combination of peaceful and convenient in Vang Vieng.

Security was OK, the bungalow window shutters wouldn't close enough to latch, and the latches on the window screen were broken. So if somebody had wanted to they could have easily broken in through the window.
The hard wooden chairs on the porch were pretty uncomfortable, I would have preferred a more comfortable lounge chair or hammock.
The hotel is one of the first pickup points for the van to Vientiane, so you get your pick of seats, which is a nice bonus.
I would recommend this place to anybody who wants to enjoy the nature of Vang Vieng and avoid the annoying backpacker party crowd while still saving money.More
