“Fun - if you are drinking or not”
Review of River Tubing

Reviewed March 10, 2014

I did the tubing as a sole traveller. You meet people on the tuk tuk to the river and can chose to go down the river with them or go your own way. Scenery is breathtaking and it is fun meeting and talking with people in the three bars along the way. Some even have basketball and volleyball for you to play. Yes there are lots of travellers in the bars drinking wih little interest in the tubing - but you can either join in or ignore it and tube down the river having just a few drinks.

Went tubing with a couple of mates and all of us had a great experience! The staff working the entry point were friendly and up for a good time and definitely set the mood for the day. We took it easy on the alcohol only having a couple of drinks at each bar and never once felt unsafe. It was dry season/summer so the water level was low and the river slow, therefore the zip lines and swings weren't operational. But I doubt we'd have used them anyway given the activities reputation. All in all we had a great day and met loads of interesting foreigners from around the world! Highly recommended for those feeling social!

The wife and I did the tubing and did not join in the excess drinking, though I would advise taking some water along, (to drink). It is fun but beware of the Chinese tourists in the kyacks as they like to splash the tubers, all in good fun. A word of caution to the revellers this river is still dangerous and remember when drunk you are very brave and stupid, I saw a girl step off the back of a moving Tuk Tuk out of here head from the tubing bars. That said its your life enjoy, and to other soberites the party lovers are all in the bars and you have the peace and quite of the river to yourseleves. Enjoy

Tubing was one of the funnest part of the trip. We lived in a dorm and had made a huge group to go with over there. We started drinking even before we started tubing And it was bloody awesome.

At first bar we were playing all sort of sports like volleyball, football, basketball, frisbee beer etc.. But by the time we reached second bar, it all got into drinking games and jamming etc stuff (by this time you are really drunk) and till you reach the third bar, you are just looking to do random stuff (or people ;)) and its even a struggle to get off the tube here.

I would say, make a nice group and go and keep on adding people there. Then it will be much more fun. There is not dancing there as the music is too low but by the time you reach back in eve, you would have had time of your life.

PS: Do return the tubes back to the company on time else they will keep back your deposit :)

This really fun trip was relaxing and enjoyable - it was only let down by the curfews and charges towards the end of the day.

We left town at around 1.30pm and although a lot of the bars have now been closed down for safety reasons (there are four, the second is the best in our opinion) it still takes a while to get down the river after the last bar, probably about two hours.

The later you leave it you risk not getting the rented tubes back to the shop by 6pm, and then they take 20,000 kip of your deposit for returns between 6pm and 8pm, or all of your deposit for returns after 8pm.

We had a tuk tuk driver stood on the side of the river at around 5:45pm, offering to drive a group of us back for 10,000 kip and w figured its either lose 10,000k o him or 20,000 kip o the rental place, so went for it. However, once the tuk tuk was full and he had all our tubes on the roof, he proceeded to snack on some crackers and refuse to leave until we paid him up front. We all refused except one girl, and eventually he gave in and drove us back to rental space with only seconds to spare on our 6pm curfew.

The shop returned our deposits minus the 10,000 kip for th driver, so they'r obviously in cahoots to double up on his money! the one girl was asking or her money back and he was playing dumb until we all supported her, and the he just gave her extr money bck nd laughed!

Quite a cheek and a bit disappointing but hat does seem to be how things go in Laos unfortunately.
