“Thank you to the wonderful people at Riverside Boutique”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

we spent christmas here-- The property is gorgeous--often you look at a picture or brochure and say 'it just cannot look like that' and at the riverside boutique it does! The hotel is in the quieter area of town (a huge bonus) and close the bridge to watch the comings and goings-- while we were there it was quite cool-- but being from the north, our kids still enjoyed the pool very much. the rooms were very comfortable and had a fridge/minibar and lovely bath facilities -- the staff here, i thought, were excellent-- they were very accommodating and friendly -- They even came to my daughter's room with a cake and sang happy birthday to her! I was so shocked! i had made the reservation so long ago, i forgot that i had even mentioned (or maybe i didn't?) that is was her birthday -- in any event-- that kind of detail was truly a sign of the thoughtful character of this resort -- the breakfast was second to none-- i have rarely seen such a spread-- something for everyone from anywhere from a traditional lao noodle soup (which my husband and daughter loved) to congee, to beans, croissant, fruit, yogurt, bacon and eggs-- you name it! I hope we can go back and see more of this area and stay here again--

Only one word.. awesome. This place is perfect. A short walk to the main area. This place sits right on the river looking across at the gorgeous mountains. Make sure you allow plenty of time to sit in the pool and day dream. Do not stay anywhere else.

This was our little treat after experiencing Laos on a budget and thank goodness we chose to stay there. To quote a previous review Vang Vieng is "a strange backpackers town" so it was nice to have somewhere to relax by the pool and enjoy the views of the mountains and river. Everything was spotless and the service was great and the buffet breakfast was plentiful. The Nam Song bridge lies adjacent so it is well worth crossing the river to explore the countryside. The local bars and restaurants are easily reached by foot. At the time of our visit the town lacked any kind of atmosphere so it was lovely to be able to return to the hotel, sit on the balcony and just listen to the crickets.

Beautiful hotel with a gorgious view over the river and an amazing swiming pool. Breakfast is excellent. The room was beautiful, large, clean, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is located outside the center, so it is quiet, but it is still close enough to walk easily.
The only reason I don't give an excellent rating is because the level of service is quite poor. This would be OK for a regular hotel, but the price of the riverside boutique is high and we expected a bit more. The staff was not able to give any advice or informations about the areas to visit.

A stunning location and beautifully and simply decorated rooms make this a very pleasant place to stay in this strange backpackers town.

I couldn't fault anything specific, but something intangible seemed to be missing. I think it falls between being Laotian and Western, and would have more atmosphere if it decided which it was.

Staff were probably the best we encountered anywhere in Laos, both friendly and efficient ( although I do wish they would stop using walkie talkies to communicate between reception and housekeeping at all hours of the day, including early morning ).

Our deluxe room (LL8) overlooking the pool was located at the exact center of the facility. We had a great view of the mountains from the spacious balcony. The rooms are well-designed and include nice touches: a drying rack on the balcony, light cotton robes that are appropriate for the weather, dimmers for the ceiling lights, a torch (flashlight) next to the safe for those who have difficulty seeing the numbers. The facility is immaculately maintained and the pool area is very inviting.

On the day we arrived, a Wednesday, there was a poolside barbecue/buffet: all-you-can-eat ribs, skewers of chicken and vegetables, whole fish wrapped in banana leaf, and an assortment of Lao and Western side dishes. It was delicious, fun and $20 seemed like a fair price.

A few minor quibbles: Fairly typical for SE Asia, the mattresses are very hard. A pillow top would have been nice for those who sleep on their sides. Morning coffee was muddy and not very tasty. We know good coffee is available in Laos (e.g. at Joma). We switched to tea. The hotel charges $6 to rent a bike, $7 for a mountain bike. But you can rent a bike for less than $2 at the minimart next to the entrance of Elephant Crossing.

$500 for 3 nights which included taxes, poolside drinks and barbecue for two. Very pricey for Vang Vieng, but by international standards it's a bargain for such quality.

We stayed for three nights. From what we saw it's probably the best place in Vang Vieng, a town that is trying to get away from backpacker excesses bit still has a little way to go. The room was nice (a large suite) and had wonderful views over the river and limestone mountains a short distance away. The pool was very relaxing. So far, so good. Breakfasts were ok, but only ok, nothing special. On our second night we were joined by a tour bus, that completely changed the feel of the place. It was not very service focused anyway, but suddenly we were forgotten about! Dinner was about a buffet for the tour group, the best tables were reserved for breakfast, and it became hard to get served in the bar. Ok, maybe it wasn't such a big deal, but if you expect a 'boutique' feel then you would have been disappointed. If you book online then bike hire is 'free', but although they were new most of the gears did not work so not such a good deal. If you are looking for a safe bet it's ok, but you will probably have a more interesting stay elsewhere although it won't be a nice. For the price we paid for the suite we expected much better so if you are going to stay there stick to the normal rooms to avoid maximum disappointment.

Room Tip: The suite is good, large with good views, but I think the other rooms are better value. Get a room o...
