“Disappointing in retrospect”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We loved our stay at the Riverside Boutique Resort in Vang Vieng. The rooms are spacious, so are the bathrooms and very nicely furnished. The view from our private balcony was amazing, especially sunsets were so beautiful. The pool is great and very refreshing after a hot day out in the sun There are also many sunloungers and towels are provided. Most staff members were super friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was good with a selection of Asian and Western dishes. Breakfast is until 10 am but not everything may last until the end. Only thing bothering us a little during our stay was the missing mosquito net over our bed as we had quite a few mossies in our room. Also the laundry service is ridiculously expensive compared to all other places in town. We would have liked to try the hotel's restaurant but they charge about three times as much as most good places in town. Overall I would have rated this resort 4-5 stars!

Unfortunately we made the mistake of booking bus transport to Vientiane and further onto Hanoi at the hotel's reception. Let's just say that the journey to Hanoi was among the most horrible experiences in many many months of travel. The bus company warmly recommended by the hotel's staff member started hitting and screaming at us Western travellers on the bus, pure racism. Asian passengers were treated with respect and got proper sleeper bunks while we were stuck in coffin-like spaces just above the hot engine. On top of that we were grossly overcharged for the bustickets by the hotel. We found out later from the other passenger who'd paid not even half as much. Partly our fault though I guess, never going to trust anybody here again. We realize that it's the bus company's behaviour at fault but the hotel selling the tickets is equally involved.

Conclusion: Very nice hotel to stay at :), from what I've seen among the best in Vang Vieng! Just don't book any transport there.

Room Tip: Had a room on the second floor with a great few of the river and the surrounding mountains. Private...

Dear guest, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at our Resort and we very much regret that your trip ended on a bad note because of a terrible bus ride. While it was only to try and make the stay of our guests easier that we used to sell bus tickets, at no profit for the Resort, we recognize that it may have given the misleading impression that we were endorsing the transport companies involved – this was not the case. Following your unfortunate experience, we have decided to stop selling bus tickets and to provide more appropriate warnings to travellers in the future. Best regards, RBR

We spent 2 nights at this lovely hotel in March. It was a very welcoming and enjoyable place to be.
Arriving after a long, sometimes white knuckle (though with breathtaking views ) journey by road from Luang Prabang,we were not all that impressed at first by the proximity of the hotel entrance and the road. However, once inside, it lived up to all our expectations and its good reviews.Easy walking distance into town, a fantastic location by the river and bridge and the staff were helpful ,courteous and smiling. The pool and grounds were well maintained. We enjoyed all the comings and goings on the river - cattle and ducks, trucks and motorbikes fording it to avoid the toll bridge, even using it as a car wash! At night it was delightful. The karst scenery and sunsets were beautiful. We really had to tear ourselves away. Our room was comfortable, spacious and cool. The balcony was large and well furnished. A mirror on the wall somewhere or on the desk would have been useful - a minor niggle.
Our travel agent had offered us the Vansana hotel but we are so glad we didn't stay there. They also suggested that the town itself was really only suitable as a quick stopover for us - we are in our sixties but met and spoke to many others like ourselves who were enjoying the lovely setting . It isn't just for backpackers there are choices for all and we would happily return to both the hotel and town.

Room Tip: Most rooms seemed to good views of the river.Upstairs,as we were would be preferable I suppose.

This is by far the top end hotel in Vang Vieng. It is new, clean and well designed. Almost all of the rooms face the pool and river. The view from the second floor rooms is amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the type of resort were you can sit by the pool for the afternoon without feeling like you are missing out on something else. The sunset is amazing. There were a lot of families at the hotel when we were there as it was a long weekend, but I would recommend the resort for families or couples. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Try for a top floor room, as it it more private.

The hotel is situated right by the river affording an incredible view...it also has a lovely pool area. The hotel is about ten minutes walk from the town so it is within easy walking distance. Now that the bars along the river have been closing tubing is not all the rage it used to be and actually Vang Vien can become a tranquil place to explore...

Beautifully designed. Nice rooms with balcony overlooking the swimming pool... Friendly and helpful staff... And a perfect location, by the river (what a view!), walking distance to the city centre. This superb hotel in which we spent 2 nights with my family of 4 concluded in style a great 2-week vacation.
5-stars!!!

Just returned from a trip to Laos and wanted to share our delightful experience of a short stay at Riverside Boutique Hotel in Vang Vieng. I had visited Vang Vieng some years ago and was shocked by the difference in the type of visitors - and the variety of accommodation. On my previous stay, most of the visitors were backpackers looking for fun and many of the cafe's and bars catered for the drug culture and tubing enthusiasts. So it was a surprise to witness the changes that have happened in the past year or so. Riverside is a delightful place to stay as it is right on the banks of the Nam Song river. So good is this new hotel that we were lucky to make a reservation as the place was booked out most days. It boasts 34 rooms in a very pleasant location surrounded by the river and spectacular mountains. The staff could not have been more helpful and attended to every need. There are other resorts that are attempting to attract the high-end tourist, but this one is without doubt the best (and possibly, most expensive). In walking distance from the hotel there are many pursuits to keep visitors interested: balloon flights can be experienced right across the street, and bicycles and motor bikes can be rented just about everywhere. It's a perfect stop-over between Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

Room Tip: End rooms on the second floor offer the best views and privacy and overlook the gardens and swimming...

We stayed at Riverside for 2 nights- the rooms are beautiful, large and with gorgeous verandah views of the pool and mountain backdrop. The only complaint I have is that there was not enough hot water to fill the bottom of the bathtub, although fine for a shower (no point having a bathtub then!). Tea and coffee as well as bottled water are complimentary. The pool, whilst a typical shallow, hotel pool, is clean, peaceful and the sun beds are always replenished with clean towels. Customer service is friendly and the staff attentive but can be forgetful (we asked them to spray our room for mosquitos whilst we were out at dinner- no mozzie nets by the way and a few mozzies in the room can keep you awake all night- but they forgot).
The restaurant is beautifully located overlooking the river, with fresh white napkins and well laid-out crockery. The buffet breakfasts are very adequate and have a good variety of cereals, fruit, eggs, bacon, Asian noodles and the most delicious croissants. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner- we ate there on both nights and the food was very pleasing and well prepared.
After a full day of caving, trekking or kayaking, this hotel is the ideal place to rest your weary muscles (shame about the bath though). For a romantic getaway or a weekend splurge, this boutique hotel is worth the extra (prices are substantially higher than any other hotel in Vang Vieng, but so it the quality).
