“Book for a night, stay for a week”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

Neil and Pan, the resort's new manager couple, combine Western standards with Lao charm to provide the warmest, most welcoming experience we've encountered during our World Trip. The resort is quiet, the bungalows clean and roomy, the common areas lively. All staff is very friendly, though mostly Lao-speaking. Oliver, their two-and-a-half year old, runs amok and charms everyone with his daring and outgoing nature. Roger and Chien, the resort's two quiet dogs, hang around the reception area. The food is wonderful and the portions are big. The new dinner menu is worth checking out.

We initially booked for two nights on our way up to Luang Prabang but ended up extending our stay twice to a total of over three weeks. Vang Vieng just makes a great place to balance outdoorsiness with doing absolutely nothing. In terms of tours, Neil and Pan's knowledge is quite useful, knowing who to call for which activity.

Location is very good; a five minute walk from the main street and ten minutes to the river. In the morning there are lovely views of the sunrise over the rice fields and distant mountains.

It's probably not the cheapest place you can find, but I bet it's hard to find nicer and more helpful staff.
The rooms are nice and clean.
Great breakfast - especially the English breakfast (the first time we got eggs cooked properly...)
A little far from the center of the city.

The place has been runned by a new Lao - NZ couple since one month now. Neil and Pan are great hostst and they provide a proper Western breakfast (e.g. great omelets and fruit with yogurt and muesli! ). The bungalows are nice and clean with a hot shower and just a five minute walk from the towncentre. If you don't feel like going out, the reception area is nice to just relax with a beer and good wifi. You can book your daytime trip or bus tickets at the reception as well. We stayed two extra nights because it was such a nice place to be. Mark & Andrea - The Netherlands.

Fantastic, calm location only 5 minutes walk from the Town Centre. Clean, well-equipped, value for money, room with TV, aircon, hot shower. Nice communal area, great breakfast and charming Lao/Kiwi hosts, who know Vang Vieng very well.

Very nice and helpful staff; rooms are great value for money with airco and simple but adequate bathroom. Ask for extra sheet to put between you and the blanket. Resort is quit but a short walk from town's centre. European breakfast available but lots of noodlestalls nearby.

Upon arrival it seemed as though our arrival was unexpected even though we had booked and paid well in advance. We were placed in the wrong room type, but it was too difficult to explain this so we just accepted the room. Location was ok, can walk over the old airstrip into town. Being a little separated meant that there was no town noise at the rooms. All in all a decent stay, but it did taint our VV experience.

Stayed here for 3 nights and the price was good for what we got. The room we had was nice looking and quite big with some chairs and table on our porch which was nice for the night time smoking sessions (tobacco off course, don`t do drugs, they are bad mmkay). The room was also clean.

The bad stuff is the staff running the place. They are not very helpful and everything they provide is at extortionate prices. When we did not bother buying anything there they became quite rude as well.

The place is quite close to the main area (across the airfield) and the compound is nice, but its just too close to a disco or whatever it is. Our room was at the far end, so the noise did not bother us as much.

Could also mention that they ruined some peoples laundry and expected money for it. They were discussing as we left. Don`t know how it turned out though.

I recommend the rooms, but nothing else at this place and in a such a big tourist area as V.V it should be easy enough to find just as good rooms as they have here.

Room Tip: Get the rooms as far away from the entrance as possible
