“Just far enough from town!”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

Stayed here for five or 6 nights in one of the concrete rooms.
The room was large with a comfy bed and hot shower.
I liked the fact that this place was far from town it provided a nice escape from the "tubing" crowd but to tell the truth town is not far away at all like 10 mins max.
Food from the restaurant is ok and the staff are helpful and friendly.
Wifi only works in the restaurant and is slow.

We stayed in one of the new rooms, with an amazing view. It's takes 10 minutes to walk into town but is worth it. The room was extremely clean and the family who own the place are very helpful. The restaurant is very good and quite cheap. I would go back again.

We found this place with tripadvisor due to the very good reviews.
They are true, the owners are so kind and always smiling, the location is very beautiful and the atmosphere is unique. the rooms are nice for a bungalow and the wifi is also good considering the location. We paid 5€ for each night and for the price it was excellent without any doubt.

I stayed in one of the stand alone huts close to their bridge. Comes with fan, mosquito net and hot shower. Has a nice balcony with a hammock and is right opposite the stream and fantastic views of the mountains all from your balcony. I actually got cold during the night and hardly used the fan. Room cost 60000 kip. I enjoyed vang vieng more than luang prabang. There is so much to do, you can hire bicycles from around the corner for 10000 kip and then go and explore the caves and blue lagoon up the road. Drop by the visitor information centre they are very helpful and will tell you what is worth seeing. Wifi is only available in the common area. Place is nice and quiet with no loud blaring music. You get a free walk over the toll bridge when you walk into town but have to pay 4000 kip when you come back. To avoid this take the riketty bamboo bridge in town and walk back via the river on the other side and head towards the guesthouse where you will see another bridge. There wasnt any irish owner when i was there only Lao people.

Room Tip: Near the river

I am warning you, it's hard to leave this place! The scenery is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere is very homely. Don't bother with the concrete charmless town, head straight to the paradise on the other side of the river. It's rustic and simple, just like Laos is. I see some people have a problem with Joe and other staff... what can I say, if you're all about perfect service and fake smiles, just pick a more luxurious place. I want to go back to Maylyn!

Me and my partner planned on staying in Van Vieng for two nights but ended up doubling our time at this fantastic guesthouse. We stayed in one of the newer fan assisted rooms with own bathroom, which was spacious, clean and posessed drop dead gorgeous views. There is a shared balcony area that looks over the mountains and has a stream running below (which helps to cool the rooms). Combining the great surroundings with the beautiful gardens, you can't help but feel relaxed here. Honestly our bed was so comfy, I slept so well here and the temperature was just right.
The owner, his family and staff were all really friendly and gave us information on walks in the surrounding area. The food from the restaurant was fantastic, we ended up eating alot of our meals here. One of my favourite facilities of this guesthouse was the cheap water refills instead of just offering fresh bottles to travellers, why don't more guesthouses do this?
I'm so glad we crossed the bridge and stayed here. It remains one of the best guesthouses, in terms of location, cleanliness and value for money, that we stayed in during our time in Laos.
A great place to stay.

Room Tip: Splash out a few extra kip on the newer rooms - the view is great and having the stream below cools...

A friend and I planned on staying only 2 nights in VV. We ended up staying 5 as we fell in love with the setting of Maylyn GH. The staff were super friendly, the grounds were gorgeous and the room was good. We had a bungalow with shared bathroom which still has a fan and plug sockets, and an amazing view :)

The food is also really good and reasonably priced too which is alwayd a winner :)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are a budget guest house/mini eco resort. We are on the edge of a village our rear faces towards the Karst mountains. We are located next door to the beautiful and expensive Vieng Tara Hotel. We have a variety of rooms some are simple basic timber frame and bamboo bungalows for people who want a more authentic SE Asian experience and we do have more conventional masonry rooms for those who need them. The main appeal of our place is the location, the views and of course our Garden which at times is full of butterflies. Early wet season is best for the butterflies. I recognise that we may not be what everyone is looking for but many people love us.. ... more   less
