This has to be the most wonderful place on the shores of Lake Niassa. We met an adult son working in Mozambique with our 2 other adult children there for a 4 night luxury holiday. They all plan honeymoons there at some future date! Within a stunning completely private and ethically run small 'boutique' resort. Attention to detail was unsurpassed, wonderful gentle and kind staff. We felt that our money contributed to the development of the area and the lives of those who work at the Lodge. Can't rate it high enough, but it is not easy to get to! That is why it is so very, very special.

Room Tip: All rooms built around the natural features. Rocks/trees etc. Bathrooms are open to the skies and st...

What a special place in Africa! Our expectations were high but were surpassed. The journey to the lodge alone is worth going here. After a nice flight from Lilongwe to Likoma Island, you have to obtain a visa at the Mozambican "immigration office" in Cobue and then by boat to the lodge. Because the engine of the swift boat broke down, we had to wait some time for a replacement boat at Cobue. However, it gave us the chance to get an impression of daily life in this quiet village. The replacement boat was a little less luxurious, but because there are all kinds of pillows and blankets on board, we were still able to comfortably enjoy a boat trip of about an hour with a beautiful sunset and then a spectacular sky! The lodge is not accessible by car ......

As a guest in Nkiwchi you get really pampered. The chalets are very spacious, rustic and simple but comfortable furnished and enter fully in the surrounding nature. Experience the shower under the under the stars. We have been here 4 nights and the only thing we had to think about was at what time we wanted to drink our morning coffee and in which location we would like to have our breakfast, lunch or dinner. Nkwichi is for people who appreciate peace and privacy in a remote aera. You can’t see the other chalets and there’s a daily campfire with sundowner with the other guests on the beautiful white beach. There are plenty of activities like a walk to the farm, canoeing on Lake Malawi or walk to a nice view point and then lunch at the Baobab tree.

A great compliment to the staff and management for their hospitality! You will really be pampered. We couldn’t have wished a better start to our holiday in Mozambique We feel privileged that we stayed on this beautiful remote place.

What an amazing 10 days spent in 'Heaven on Earth'! From the moment you arrive, you feel that you are home and a beautiful home at that! Malcolm and Kristina your hosts ensure you are happy, relaxed and have everything you need! The amazing guest management team will set up your meal anywhere in the area and it is NO PROBLEM! For us this is one of the best parts of the lodge, you can be alone for your entire time or you can join the other guests for a magical dinner on the beach. The accommodation is rustic, but perfect, your outside bathrooms are magical and the rooms, beautiful clean and spacious! The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful! The food - delicious and plentiful! We enjoyed our stay so much we did not want to leave and when we did it was with a very heavy heart!! Thanks again to an amazing team! We will be back! *perfect honeymoon destination*

Nkwichi was - is - one of the true highlights of our one and a half years in Africa. The location is incredible - secluded, isolated and beautiful. The beaches on this side of the lake are far superior to the ones in Malawi, and there is plenty of white sand here. Nkwichi itself is everything you could possibly want, provided you don't need TV or wild parties. There are kayaks and snorkelling gear available, plenty of sun beds, and enough walks and local projects to visit to keep you busy should you wish it. The chalets are beautifully built, open and spacious, with outdoor toilets, showers and bathtubs carved out of stone. Meals are served wherever you want them to be: by your chalet, at various spots along the beach, on a platform overlooking the bay or under a 2000-year old baobab tree a short walk away. The attention to detail is wonderful, and the staff super friendly. In addition to all of this, the lodge supports a number of community and conservation projects, and is a true ecolodge - it runs entirely on solar power, grows as much of its own fruits and vegetables as possible, and strives to have a minimal impact on the environment. We had one of the most relaxing stays we have had anywhere, and the staff - from managers to waiters - did their utmost to make it so. Highly recommended. And one thing not to be overlooked - the stars from here... wow. Incredible. NB: to get here, the easiest way is to fly or take the Ilala ferry to Likoma Island. If taking the Ilala it is highly likely that you would need to spend the night on Likoma Island, as the ferry is frequently late and it takes over an hour to get to Nkwichi from where it docks (plus a visit to Malawian and Mozambique immigration).

Travelled to Nkwichi Lodge via Nairobi, with my husband and three children aged 8, 15 and 17 years. We all absolutely loved the holiday. The location is stunning - isolated, beautiful and full of wonderful surprises. The local staff at the lodge are all charming and you feel that they are all very supportive of the project and keen to encourage people to stay and learn a bit about the local community. The food was great, we had a wide variety and lots of fish from the lake and vegetables grown the lodges own farm. My children were very happy, they felt independent and able to explore the lodge and surrounding area. The staff were always happy to take them on trips to local villages, or even camping on the farm beach. A perfect holiday to remember - hope to go back with another family very soon.

We arrived quite late, and with a small baby and todler it was a bit of a hassle since the bathroom was on the outside and the lightning was very bad. But the friendly staff was very helpful and brought boiled water for making bottles and served dinner at the room. A cot and mozzie net was supplied for the baby.

Although the lodge is a bit rustic, the settings is absolutely perfect and the staff's willingness to serve your meals anywhere, (room, beach, at the big Baobab tree etc.) makes this an extremely relaxing experience. One also don't need to dress up, flip flops, sarong and swimming costume is all you need.

They were also very willing to look after the baby while we took a swim or went snorkeling.

I found the room we stayed in much better than the family room(Chimulimuli) where we stayed the first night. For a family room I found it to be to disjointed and the toilet to far outside for children to use at night.Very far from main area and beach.

The food was very good, the location was great, the white sand is a perfect setting for the sundowner one enjoy around the fire every night.

Also the water in front of the lodge is very shallow so perfect for children or just to wallow to get a briefer from the heat. The snorkeling along the edges at the rocks was the perfect learning ground for beginners and kids, and a wide variety of very colorful fish was seen.

Also the fact that the lodge have private use of this beach is great!

Overall a good experience that I will definitely do again.

They need to invest in some new cushions and maybe duvets instead of blankets, but this is small things. Rooms are all individually built and have their own style, so this is personal taste.

Make sure to take a good torch since lights in the room and walkways at night is not good, since there is no power but you can load cameras etc. during the day in the office.

Room Tip: Kuya is good for families with small children or babies that want to have a toilet nearby, also no s...

This place is amazing and the staff extremely kind, welcoming and doing their best to make your stay perfect.

I highly recommend this piece of piradise for those who want to enjoy the Niassa Lake in a unspoiled environment and at the same time support a development and conservation project.

Food is also quite good, so... what else?!
