“Fabulous holiday and wedding, more than 4* hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2010

Me and my husband stayed at Tamassa Hotel for 9 nights as we were getting married at the hotel.

We was a group of 19 with one child and the staff could not do enough for us.

From the moment we arrived to the time we left we you could not ask for better service. We had booked a standard room (if you can them that!) but was upgraded to a deluxe room which was beautiful!. The grounds of the hotel were perfectly kept & the pools were always clean.

We had an 18 month child with our party & the hotel staff catered for her needs & kept her entertained throughout the holiday.

Staff- We wish to say a special thank you to Melani our wedding co-ordinator who made our wedding day stress free & perfect, Nishant who is our brother from another mother! who made our evenings in the B bar one word can describe him LEGEND!!.
Last but not least Joel in the Playa restaurant thank you for coping with us & being a superb waiter. All staff however were superb & made our stay more than memorable!

Beach- idylic, yes there are sea urchins but just avoid the rocks or wear jelly shoes.

Food - The food in the buffet and al a carte restaurant was gorgeous, i do not understand how in previous reviews people complained about the food in the buffet. It was different every night and some of our party perferred the food in the buffet restuarant to the Playa restaurant.

Playa restaurant was lovely, lovely setting and superb food.

Entertainment - Every night there was something different. Entertainment was at the playa bar and B bar. Each night it was on till gone 11.00pm. It is the best entertainment that we have seen in a hotel.

Wedding- Perfect, although when people were asked to move the sun loungers they did for 30 seconds, then they put them back! Melani made the whole thing easy and stress free, you spoke to her about what you wanted including extras if wanted and she sorted it all out for you all we had to do is turn up. She also did special touches like having our menu with our names on for our wedding night dinner and being able to walk down the aisle to whatever song we wanted. We also had our first wedding dance at the B bar and it was made to feel like our wedding reception. It was personal and perfect and we would not have done it any other way.

Overall this is one of the best hotel's that we have stayed in and defintely rate it a 5* hotel. We have already said that we will be back for our 1st anniversery & would recommend it for weddings or just an idylic getaway!.

The Tamassa was Perfect. The hotel was full while we were there but the hotel is on large grounds so we never felt crowded. If anything we wondered where everyone was. The rooms are very comfortable. We had a basic room but it was more than adequate. The great thing was that the bathrooms are really spacious so the bedroom was not cluttered with wet clothes & towels. The beach and pools are lovely – the hotel website shows all that.

What I was Really impressed with were the people. They were fantastic. Management was very subtle, there was never a sense of someone overseeing the work rate and yet the staff were very hard working and efficient all the time. They were also charming and helpful. I was really impressed with them. Everyone worked hard.

The people I am most grateful to are the chefs in the main kitchen. They did an incredible job. The food was delicious. The range was broad and diverse. The quality was superb. I was really Most impressed. We have stayed in Hilton resorts and a Sandals resort in Cuba. The Tamassa was certainly comparable to Sandals and the food was far better than anything we have had before in the Hilton Resorts.

To make things more interesting, I have a severe allergy to all Dairy products and to eggs. Again, everyone knew. When I mentioned my room number when ordering food or even a drink, they would refer to my allergy and promise to confirm ingredients. Every lunch & Dinner, one of the chefs would guide me around the buffet and tell me what had dairy/eggs and what was safe for me to eat. Even though there was a huge selection they would sometimes change recipes to ensure a specific dish was ok for me. I was amazed by their generosity. I never felt like I was a bother or an irritation. Quite the opposite; it was as if they were relishing the opportunity and the challenge.

The pastry chef, Narvish is a genius of a man, who clearly Loves his job. Every day he would create a dessert just for me. Again, I was overwhelmed by this generosity. He was incredibly creative and put Huge effort into both the exquisite desserts and the presentation. When I think back on my perfect holiday in Mauritius, those desserts are one of the highlights.

I also want to thank Jaysen for tolerating my hungover petulance and for curing me with the most succulent steak and the most perfect chips. It was exactly what I needed. Thank you.

A huge thanks to Narvish, Subaraj, Jaysen, Wahed and Reshmy and everyone at The Tamassa Hotel.

You'll have a fabulous time at this top rate hotel. The genuinely warm, friendly, helpful approach of all staff, from your first introduction to reception when you arrive, to the send off by the concierge when you leave - it's all absolutely faultless. The attention to detail is outstanding, nothing is too much trouble and all the staff are genuinely interested in making sure you have a good experience.
The room standards are very high, good quality fittings; towels changed daily; spotlessly clean; room cleaned, tidied and refreshed a couple of times a day, and just a short few steps to the infinity pool outside your room or to the beach.
We went for the all inclusive option, and were grateful because the cost of meals/ drinks at the hotel is quite high, but the all inclusive option means you have no nasty bar bill facing you on departure - as long as you stick to the all inclusive drinks / meals that are marked on all menus. Stray off this list - and the extra costs can mount up!!
Food is mixed. There's a main restaurant with buffet choice at all meals - it very much depends on your taste and palate whether you'll like this or not. We found it fine for breakfast, and for lunchtime when we didn't want a formal white tablecloth lunch, but for evenings we found it rather canteen like. Instead we booked into the Playa restaurant most evenings ( you have to book ahead, it's very much the superior option) which gave a perfect setting, ideal restaurant type experience, and one for which you could put on your best clothes. The staff here were fantastic, and the chef brigade outstanding in preparation and presentation. Sometimes a bit more style than substance - the tastes were sometimes a bit bland and didn't reflect what we expected from the mix of such cultural and gastronomic influences.
Any downsides?? Yes, if you're a bit water sport fan like me. Don't try to go out on their windsurf equipment - it's really old rubbish, and the hotel beach leads right on to the coral reef which is really shallow. If you fall off on to the stag coral just a couple of feet below the water - you'll really hurt yourself. Stick to the pedallos, kayaks or glass bottom boat option on the surface.
And the really bad and highly dangerous bit??. In the true spirit of Indian subcontinent culture, the mix of boat traffic is chaotic. There's a channel for speedboat / water sking activity - clearly marked by buoys. But the coral reef for snorkelling is on the outside of the channel. To snorkel on the reef, you've got to swim out upwind and upstream of the beach ( the tide only flows one way, tide in or out, and it's about 4-5 knots - really strong!!) So you get out past the channel, float down on the tide over the reef having a great time, but then have to get back to the beach by swimming the channel - against the tide, dodging the speedboats and the waterskiers. Beware - the speedboats take no prisoners. The whole place is a water sport disaster waiting to happen.!!
Organise your water sport activity zones better please, before someone dies!! Yes, it really is that bad. Hope the management is reading trip advisor comments.
If you want to kite surf or windsurf, walk down the beach a bit to the Telfair. Their beach frontage faces on to the extensive shallow lagoon with a weed covered bottom, not coral. If you don't have your own gear, just phone any of the local hire / instruction companies as they regularly come to the Telfair for guests that want to learn / hire. And because it's downstream of the hotels and boring for the waterskiers who can't show off to their spouses / partners on the beach at the other hotels, the water ski boats don't come down this way.!!

My husband and I got married at Tamassa this month, bringing friends and Family from both Australia and the UK to celebrate with us.

Prior to arrival, we were concerned about the arrangements being as we wanted, having arranged things from a distance. The day after our arrival, we had a meeting with the Guest relations manager, Meloni, who quickly assured us that our day was in the hands of competent, organized and understanding people. Almost every detail we asked for was perfect. Rather randomly, the day before the wedding we asked if it would be possible to include a professional fireworks display for the reception dinner in the evening - it was done! Everything we asked for was a 'yes' and was done not only quickly, but at a very reasonable price.

The food at our wedding reception was exceptional!

All our guests had a wonderful time and we had a brilliant, memorable wedding - the day went so smoothly with all the Tamassa staff on hand and every arrangement was taken care of, we didn't have to ask for a thing on the day. The photographer was funny and very good - we liked all the shots we got to choose from.

One of our family had an accident while there and the resort did everything to accomodate this new need and help us.

The food in the Buffet restaurant was of a good standard, a little more variety would not have been amiss, but if you are only there for a week, there is plenty to choose from to make mealtimes worth looking forward to.

All in all, we can't rave enough about Tamassa. We stayed at another resort on Mauritius for a second week for the Honeymoon - it was more expensive but fell short of meeting our standards having stayed at Tamassa. The thing it really has going for it is the isolated location on the south coast - it is remote (as much as can be on an island the size of Tamassa) and you don't feel like you are in another tropical tourist trap- the coastline is lovely and there is no traffic or crowds for miles!

We recommend it to everyone and will definately be going back for one of our wedding anniversaries.

This was our second time staying at the Tamassa. We had a fantastic time. It was great to be welcomed back by many of the same staff that were there last time.
The food in the main "SHOW" restaurant was even better than last year. Not sure why, but maybe because they have dropped the A La Carte nights, which were only OK. Though the resort was full, we never felt that crowded and there was always more than enough food for everyone.
The entertainment team was larger than last year and they were having many more activities too, all which were great fun.
We took the catamaran cruise again and it was worth every cent. Highly recommended. You can even book this before leaving. There was only a couple of days available for this, and I'm glad I booked it before leaving.
One thing that made a big difference from last year is that we went all inclusive. Our travel agent in Perth, Travelcorner in West Leederville organised everything for us and were a huge help to us.
Going all inclusive was so much better as we didn't have to worry about looking at menus and drinks lists for prices, just ordered and had fun.
One little tip I would like to suggest is this. The flights from Perth in WA land in the very early morning, and you arrive at the resort at around 8am or so. If the place is full you will more than likely have to wait until 2pm to get checked in. The plane coming back to Perth leaves at 10.45pm and check out is at 10am. We paid a bit extra for early check in and late check out, and it was so worth it. We checked in only 10 minutes after arriving and checked out at 7pm and had lunch drinks and dinner at no charge. Something to really think about. This was suggested to us by our travel agent.

Just returned after 6 glogrious days! The hotel is lovely, staff are very friendly and the service is great! The food is good and la playa restaurant is fantastic. Only downside is the rocky beach but great if you like snorkelling! The hotel has lots of honeymooners and younger couples so the hotel has a good vibe! The cocktails and bar staff are fantastic! The hotel is in the south of the island so make sure you hire a car for the day to get out and about! Would definately recommend this place and would return anyday!

What a wonderful stay! Greeted after the long 12hr flight from the UK at the hotel with a cocktail and shown to our amazing bedroom which they had upgraded.

The entire stay was completley faultless. We got married out there on day 5 of our stay and the wedding co-ordinator Melanie was fantasic, she did exceptionally well of catering for our every need and even managed to get out favourite song to walk down the aisle to! the suprises just kept on coming with every effort made by the staff to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

The food was amazing, and I would highly recommend booking into La Playa which did a fantastic array of meals.

The hotel was fully booked but you would not have known, we hardly ever saw a soul and nearly always had the pool to ourselves.

Some previous reviews talk about it being too quiet but if you are wanting a romantic break then it is just what you need to spend some quality time with your loved one.

If you want to seriously unwind, relax and switch off from everyday life then this resort is perfect, there is a great mix of people from all nationalities then this is the resort for you!.
