Just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Tamassa Hotel. I had a lovely room by the sea. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was a lovely restful holiday in wonderful surroundings. As a single traveller I was a little apprehensive, but prior to my visit I emailed the manager Ashwin who assured me I would be well looked after. I went with SAGA and found that we bonded together and had a really nice group. I was sad to leave but hope to return again someday..

Quite a nice hotel with nice if not super-luxurious rooms. Two nice swimming pools. Two nice restaurants: one huge with a vast and tasty buffet; one smaller, by the sea and more intimate. A nice little beach but do take care of the sharp coral. A nice spa offers some pretty good massages, Do make the effort to see some of the surrounding countryside and villages.

Room Tip: Aim to be close to the sea and a long way from the bar (unless you are a party animal).

My husband and I had a 5 night stay at Tamassa recently. A superb holiday, wedding & honeymoon. We would stay here again without a second thought. The staff are hard-working and enjoy what they are doing which results in the exemplary service at Tamassa.

The hotel is located about 50 mins from the airport at Plaisance, and is in Bel Ombre on the south coast. It enjoys a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and is near to a village for basic shopping. It is within good reach of Grand Bassin, Cheri Bois Tea Factory, Chamarel Seven Colours and Le Morne.

Our room was a first floor sea-facing superior room. The room was clean & contemporary, with a large bathroom, big comfortable bed and huge windows to enjoy the views. The separate dressing area made sure clothes were kept tidy off the bed. We had many walks up the clean white-sanded beach and clear blue sea, also enjoyed lazing on the many sun loungers on site. The hotel grounds are also very pretty for a walk. We didn’t have time to try any water activities on this trip.

The food was exceptional. We ate everyday at the buffet Show restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Being vegetarian, we did not need to worry. The service at Show was excellent - quick service, they knew our room number by heart. As tee-totallers we had delicious mocktails to savour on resort.

During our stay, we had our Renewal of Vows ceremony at Tamassa (Infinity Package). The hotel wedding co-ordinator Neha is always ready with her dazzling smile and professional demeanour. The ceremony was organised swiftly. Our ceremony was heart-touching. The jolly photographer Dave took beautiful photos. The registrar speech & our vows were so sweet. We chose to have our ceremony on the beach under a decorated canopy near the boathouse, which was idyllic. Thereafter we had our photographs as the sun set. A trio of musicians added the touch of romance to the ceremony.

For our wedding dinner, we had private dining on the beach by candlelight. The Playa Restaurant created a high-end 5 course meal with a personalised menu for us. It was very romantic. When we returned to our room, behold two swans (crafted elegantly with towels) nestling in rose petals on our bed. There was a lovely fruit platter & champagne on our desk, as well as two gifts from the hotel. A rose petal bubble bath was the next surprise. Amazing! The next morning we enjoyed a wedding breakfast on our balcony.

Our balcony was decorated with the flowers from our ceremony, which was a special touch. Thank you!

During our stay we used the Spa at least on 3 occasions. The Spa has its own pool, sauna and steam room which we used. They were all clean and comfortable to use. We had relaxing body scrubs, full body massages and facials at the Spa, all which I highly recommend. My perfect wedding hair and make-up were also provided at the Spa.

The Front Office team are welcoming and efficient. The Front Office Manager, Benoit, is such a cordial person and his professional manner is reflected in each of his team members. Service was always with a smile. We knew we could rely on them if anything was needed. We used the hotel taxi service to visit Grand Bassin and the local village of Chemin Grenier. I also would like to thank Benoit for arranging everything at our next hotel, so that we would be well taken care of.

We were lucky to be staying on Diwali night, when a special show was arranged with musicians and wonderful dancers that held lamps in their hands as they moved gracefully. It was magical – way the Mauritians celebrate Diwali is something special, the fusion of cultures is truly what makes the country unique, along with its warm hospitality.

So in all I would like to thank the entire team at Tamassa, as I'm sure there are many people behind the scenes who also made our stay special in addition to those we met. We will never forget this trip of a lifetime and would love to visit again soon.

Room Tip: Room #2065, the views are simply outstanding. Go for higher floors for privacy. All-inclusive is wor...

Enjoyed total relaxation, Friendly and accommodating staff; Spotlessly clean enviroment and superbly kept grounds though the rooms are due for a refurb. Recommend a visit to the Spa as they give a great massage, Food at Playa was nicely presented and delivered an enjoyable dining experience close to the beach,
Show restaurant had plenty of choice though a little repetative, there are a lot of birds in and out of the restaurant at breakfast though personally i quite enjoyed interacting with the local wild life.
Boat house crew were great and boat captain kept a good eye on all the snorkellers as the drift can tend to be quite quick. Nice shallow lagoon though recommend gel shoes. My only real issue was the evening entertainment was ill conceived, lacked imagination and technical ability.
Lots of activities to parttake in throughout the day and the guy running the fitness program was very entertaining. Overall a worthy break and would certainly recommend the Tamassa to all.

Room Tip: Our room number was 2001 and I tell you now it had the best view along the coastline and the best pl...

My second stay at this hotel for the Indian Ocean Triathlon, and it was nothing less than exceptional! Most hotels of this calibre would grimace at the sight of athletes descending on such a pristine hotel with bicycles (which you are allowed to keen in your room without question), and other sports gear. In fact, LUX Island resorts has a passion for sports and encourages guests to relax, but also to get out there and enjoy physical activities on land and water.

The Tamassa offers an exceptional environment for a training camp/ holiday. The main hotel is completely swim-able if you choose to do laps, as well as the ocean for exceptional open water experiences. The cycling around the south of the Island is easily accessible from the Tamassa and you have the challenging Chamarel climb nearby. Every time we headed out for a run, ride or swim it seemed such a pleasure for the hotel staff who would happily advise on routes. Bhola from guest relations has even taken to running himself since the last time I was there, and was pleased to tell me of his progress!

The hotel itself provides a great environment for sporting types, beautiful, relaxing and quiet rooms and fragrant gardens which provide a sense of well-being. The buffet choices are excellent, healthy and nutritious. As a vegetarian, I was really taken aback by a dedicated vegetarian corner, which provided exciting fare without the need to seek out the chef to check what the ingredients were. The hotel is fun but in the outdoor sense, and relatively devoid of loud, drunken partying types and disruptive children - ideal if you are looking to relax!

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty good, but if you are seeking the ultimate quietness, try to avoid rooms close t...
