First time in Mauritius. We booked a Sea front apartment but when we arrived found we were on the first floor with a sea view room. We did raise with management but the final result is:
1.The first floor rooms are larger and our room (7109) was very private with a wonderful view.
2.The groundfloor apartments (which we checked out) were much smaller and the privacy levels between the varoius rooms was poor being side by side with quite small frontages and totally exposed to anyone on the beach.
We evntually decided that the first floor was the better choice and just walked around to the beach when we booked our slot there in front of our room.
The facilities for dining which are now combined with Le Telfair offer superb value on the all inclusive package.Wine and champagne is available at all the restaurants and I would suggest pre booking to ensure you are not disappointed.
We had no problem in being served with plentiful supply of drinks &/or food anmd the coutesy of all the staff was amazing.
Having sought views from different sources during our stay it would appear that the east coast is probably favourite at the moment (Bel Mare Plage area with long wide sandy beaches) but there is a distinct attempt to bring the southern tip into the picture. As a first timer with no comparisons the only comment I can make is that the resort is very relaxing (although the beach can get a little crowded at times) the food and wine choices are more than sufficient to provide a stress free holiday where you can enjoy everything to whatever level you choose.
I will probably try somewhere else next time just as a comparison but would not be worried about going back to this fine resort.

Room Tip: Room 7109 is first floor looking over the gardens of the "only holiday villa" at the resort. Massive room with Jacuzzi bath large shower, good hanging space, safe and large balcony. We actually arranged for 2 sin loungers to be placed on this balcony which with a table and 2 chairs + large sofa gave us excellent relaxation. Totally private with very good views.

We booked two weeks here!!! What a mistake. When we arrived after a 12 hour flight we were made to wait 6 hours to be given our room. We booked a beach front villa and were given a room which was little more than a room next to the pool. The staff are slow to the point of being rude. They say the right things but ignore you. This is not a five star resort. It isn't even a three star resort. It looks impressive with the web-site but I would never come back again or even recommend it. It is nothing more than a premier inn with an up-grade reception and bar. We eventually got so fed up we paid an extra £1500 and moved hotels. We could even here the couple in the room next door and above us. Even heard the snoring.

Our 5th visit to the Awali showed improvement on previous years as it appears the hotel management have listened to their guests and have given increased dining options. I think it would be helpful if tour operators made guests aware of the opportunity to book restaurants via e-mail in advance. It can seem unfair when some guests had booked all their dining options for their entire stay whilst others rely on pot luck when they arrive. I understand this may cause increases in admin but I think is a fairer option.

The management welcome input to trip advisor and are willing to listen to anything that will help with the guest experience. I have only minor points to mention.

The sun loungers surrounding the pool are looking a bit tired . Perhaps the route to the C beach club and the Telfair restaurants could be better signposted and maybe use of golf buggies to ferry guests between the locations rather than having to use the bus shuttle. Internet access in the rooms would be a great benefit.

As I say these are only minor points and did not spoil another great holiday.

Dear ManchesterGarden1,

It was a pleasure having you for a 5th visit at Heritage Awali Mauritius. The all team members and I would like to express our gratitude for your fidelity and loyalty.

To continuously improving our standard and the guests experience we do encourage our guests to give us maximum of feedback.

The booking system for dining has been reviewed accordingly due to some recurrent comments and to give the opportunity to all guests to eat in the 11 restaurants of the Domaine de Bel Ombre.

We would like to reassure you that the sun lounges, mattresses and larger beach towels ( 90 cms x 225cms ) for both beach and pools have already been reordered and we are waiting for delivery at the earliest.

We are also working on the improvement of the Internet facilities in rooms and we took very good regarding the signage on site.

Thanks again for your nice review and we look forward to welcome you for a 6th visit at Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort (Heritage Resorts).

My Best Regards,

We have just returned from our fourth visit to the Heritage Awali.
There have been huge changes since last year with the Awali and Le Telfair becoming one Domain. Therefore, apart from the three excellent restaurants at the Awali, one now has the option to eat at all the restaurants at Le Telfair, the Golf Club and Chateaux Bel Ombre.
The setting by the Indian Ocean is fantastic, the rooms are comfortable, the staff helpful and friendly.
The Blue Infinity at the Awali has got to be one of the great places on earth to eat. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly, the service is first class and the sunsets breathtaking.
The golf course is a first class test and in very good condition with very quick true greens. The staff there are all helpful and friendly. The hamburgers in the golf club restaurent are out of this world. You do however need to book well ahead to obtain the best tee times.
Unfortunately, we were unable to book any of the restaurants at Le Telfair in the evening but we did manage to have lunch at the Beach Club on three occasions. Although the food was good the service was both slow and inattentive. The choice of both food and drinks as part of the all inclusive package was restricted.
The new concept of being able to eat at all the restaurants in the Domain is a good one. The problem is, unless you are aware that you need to book all your evening meals at the various restaurants as soon as you arrive, it is difficult if not impossible to get in to those you want to eat at.
The all inclusive deal is very good value but the do's and don'ts are overcomplicated for those who have not stayed at the hotel before.
While we were there we had a near miss from a tropical cyclone, which meant very strong winds and rain for two days. This was potentially very frightening but the staff were fantastic many of them staying on duty for 48 hours with very little sleep to look after the welfare of the guests.
The staff and the whole ambience at the Awali is chaming. It is therefore a great shame that the waiters at the Beach Club at Le telfaire failed to reach the same high standard when we lunched there. Dispite this we are looking forward to booking at the Awali for a fifth visit next year.

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra to get a room with an ocean view.

An amazing holiday, lovely resort with wonderful staff, had tears in my eyes on the day we were leaving. Choice of restaurants excellent, with some outstanding food. First time ever we have gone all inclusive and it certainly was value for money. Evening entertainment quite quiet but it didn't matter to us. A little piece of heaven and a taste of paradise would certainly love to go back. Thank you

Room Tip: Had a ground floor beach front room worth the extra cost
