“Remember Out of Africa?”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

The Lodges at the Sleeping Warrior and their landscape with the shadow of the reassuring Massaï Fighter in the background are second to none. The master plan prepared by the owners, J-F and Jacquie Damon provides for ample space between the guest houses to preserve our privacy. To call room service, we used a state-of-the-art radio system directly imported from Hollywood (“one Spanish omelet, please - thank you– roger!). Ken, our personal butler was just perfect. Unfortunately he was returning to HS and it was not possible to bring him to Virginia with us. Not only dinners at the main lodge deserve 5 stars (probably one of the many reasons why TripAdvisor ranked the Sleeping Warrior best in the area), but we could also enjoy the feast of drinks and food in the middle of the Savannah with freshly ironed tablecloth – Parisian Style!. No need to say that we were duly protected from the wild animals curiosity by more than one guard. Our family stayed for a week at the Lodge. On top of the resources of the Lodge itself, (22.000 acres of conservancy), we could enjoy the vicinity of the Delamere Estate (Remember “Out Of Africa?) and of the Lakes Elementaita and Nakuru, (15 miles away) a National Park with innumerable tropical birds and impressive rhinoceros.
We enjoyed our stay tremendously and we suggest that you do so. The Rigals

Very rough jeep ride to get to the lodge! We saw a few secretary birds which feed on snakes. Quite a sight. Once there the accommodations and especially the food was terrific, we were greeted with cold towels and a drink.
Lunch awaited us upon arrival. Jacqueline the owner was very hands on and welcoming. Her husband was away but she was very gracious. Ken was amazing. He handled the bar and restaurant. The drinks were included and the meals were the best on the entire trip. The lodge was comfortable with a beautiful view. There was an outside platform with a bon fire at night. Another area had an infinity heated pool with a view out of this world. The only inconvenience was to get back and forth from the room we had to use a walkie talkie and a car was sent from the main lodge to pick us up.
It did however lend itself to a complete getaway. Our round thatched roof cottage room stood alone with no other ones in sight. We had an amazing balcony type look out from the room to a spectacular 180 degree west facing view. We had a take and 2 chairs for the outside. Birds were everywhere. We had a view of a watering hole in the valley before us. The lodge was up fairly high.
At night driving back we saw zebras and water bucks. It was beautiful. Room service was lovely with beer and a big carafe of hot water to make tea. It was quiet and stunning.
The room was huge, with netting around the bed. 2 sinks in the bathroom and a terrific shower. No hair dryers due to the solar power. The entire cottage was filled with windows to capture the amazing view.
Down side was brown water initially. Although bottles of drinking water available.
We could not have been happier however with how much they did to make us comfortable and enjoy our experience. One woman in our party celebrated a birthday so I asked the staff if they could do something special for her and we could sing her happy birthday. Well they did more than I even asked for or expected. They sang with massi blankets on and it was memorable. The lady for whom this was done was thrilled and it brought her to tears. I suspect she will never forget that celebrated birthday.
unlike other places in Africa, tipping was not as pushy. lent itself to wanting to tip more. also they had a box at front desk for staff tips to be shared.

had many more pics but ran out of space. sorry

Room Tip: I cant recall the name of our cottage , one person from our group was in a cottage near the lodge...

The lodge on top of the hill. Beautiful scenery, but you will definately need a 4 WD drive car for all the Lava rocks present, All was perfect but was unhappy with the food service. The food was not upto standard especitally when the lodge is wow! When booking please make sure you have the menus set as not much variety. Overall a good place, take your sports shoes as alot of walking. All cottages are very private, a mini break for couples will definately be the perfect hideaway!

Lake Elementita is placed right between Naivash and Nakuru (Rift Valley, Kenya) and when the water are not that high it is all pink of Flamingos. on its South, on an extraordinary volcanic crater area, a small and unknown reserve where this lodge is located.
It is not easy making a place safe and convenient for man without driving the wildlife away. It seems like this place is where it was done big time. If you want to walk from the restaurant to your room at night (impossible without 2 Massai warriors company!) the chance that you meet a Buffalo on your way is very high..
The rooms are perfectly designed and highly convenient. I recommend opening all blinds and let some of the wilderness penetrate your dreams.
For one who live and work in Kenya for the last 4 years, The notion of how few restaurants can be expected to surprise you with a real good steak keeps one's expectations low... here the surprise was beyond and above! it was Excellent!

Sleeping warrior is not moderate when it comes to price. Yet it certainly gives good value for that cost.

The lodge is a bit hard to reach as it's in the middle of a small conservative, exclusive, so you will not be bothered with so many safari seekers, but you have to have 4x4 car if you want to drive yourself. We spent two nights there, one of them was the New Year’s Eve and it was lovely. It is a family run place so you will feel special. The owners come and greet you every meal and they have a table just beside you. Little number of lodges, fully furnished, and with plenty of hot water and security all around so it's comfortable and safe. The view from the lodges is great as it oversees an old volcano. We had a trip around with our car and we saw a lot of zebras, gazelles, and some buffaloes. We had a Masai celebration for the New Year and it was very nice. The place is so family oriented and privacy is the key here... It was a lovely trip and we will go back with family members...

Room Tip: All lodges are good and have super view... They are far from each others so you have good privacy...

Amazing view of the crater and the sleeping warrior 'mountain' and other unique Rift Valley landscape features, Lake Elementaita can also be seen in the distance. We walked around to see the grounds and the pool was gorgeous, with another great view.
We had lunch at the lodge which was a set menu, the service was quick and friendly. The food was pretty average resort food, but considering the price it was really the amazing location and the cost of logistics we were paying for- we calculated 8 km from the main gate plus the distance from the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, so it is quite a distance.
