After a lovely drive to one of the more remote and less visited places in Yosemite, you'll stand at the edge of the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir on the dam. Once you get over the fact that this was a man-made creation which required the flooding of part of Yosemite, you'll wish you could swim in this amazingly beautiful body of water. No boating, no swimming, no fishing. So what's the water for. Well, through the wonders of modern technology and old-fashioned gravity, you are looking at the water supply for San Fran. There is a nice hike along the edge, after you walk through a tunnel. In Spring, there are gorgeous wild-flowers and waterfalls; in August, it is hot and the water is so inviting but off limits. But the trail is more easily accessible and quiet.
