“That was fun!”

Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias
Reviewed July 23, 2013

We took a tour in the Mariposa Grove and were so glad we did rather than walk. They gave us earphones so we were able to hear about each of the attractions we passed ~ really enjoyable to see those old magnificant trees. Highly recommend!

About 20 minutes from Wawona Hotel. Nice hike that isn't difficult. The trees are amazing. You can do a short hike or a long one and see a lot. We stopped walking after about 1 1/2 miles because the altitude got to be too much. You will take tons of pictures.

This was the first attraction that we did in Yosemite. The trees are amazing. I recommend going to the Grizzly Giant and the California Tree (walk through tree) which is a little less than a mile. I'd skip the fallen tunnel tree unless you have unlimited time and energy since it's about a 2 mile hike. Keep in mind that you will be hiking up hill for most of it, so it feels much longer than 2 miles.

We walked through the lower grove and part of the upper. It was VERY busy when we were there (afternoon) and we were a little tired from the day, so my view might be skewed - BUT I was kind of disappointed in the Mariposa Grove. Yes, the sequoias were impressive but I expected there to be more of them and closer together, not one here and then having to walk a half mile to the next, etc. From the parking area the walk is all uphill. Perhaps the tram ride is the better way to see this area :) and maybe Sequioa National park has a more impressive grove of trees (never been there though).

Nice trails but crowded. Go in your own and explore to save time and money unless your unable to hike. Unique trees. Cute gift shop was parking $20 to do park for z week
