This is a great hike for most family members. At times it is rather strenuous, but the round trip from the trailhead is only 2.2 miles. The view, 360 degrees, is awesome and the landmarks of Yosemite Valley are seen unobstructed. Our family really enjoyed hiking up to the top of this dome to have lunch with the magnificent view below.

A moderat 2.2 mile round trip hike, this trail takes you to the top of Sentinel Dome and rewards you with a 360 degree view of the park. You can see west down Yosemite Valley for views of Cathedral Rocks and El Capitan. You can see north, across the valley for a full view of Yosmite Falls. You can see east down Tenaya Canyon with views of Half Dome and North Dome. And you can see south with views of Nevada Falls and the Sierra crest.
Bring plenty of water. The hike gets difficult for some at the end, but nothing insurmountable. The reward for your hike is one of the best offered in Yosmite National Park.
(Do not hike if there is a thunderstorm looming, you are entirely exposed on the granite rock.)

The views from the top are really worth the hike. Just remember to take water along with your camera!

About a 1.1 mile hike with a 1,000 foot vertical but when you get to the top - a 360 view of the valley that should not be missed. West - a reverse Tunnel View; North - Yosemite Falls; East - Half Dome and Nevada Falls; South - well, not that much.

Pretty embarrassing that I live in Fresno, and it took me 23 years to see Yosemite. So glad I planned the trip, even the short 45 minute drive up was beautiful. (Warning to travelers prone to motion sickness, the drive can get a bit windy).

We hiked up Sentinel Dome first, which was a very nice, light and beautiful hike with plenty of picture opportunities along the way. This is absolutely perfect for first time/beginner hikers!

Second was "the fissures" (a separate trail but close to Sentinel Dome). Another very short trail with absolutely breathtaking views! There is also a viewing spot at the very top where you can look down at the entire Yosemite Valley. The waterfall looks so tiny from up there!

I have to mention, I'm deathly terrified of heights, but the scenery was so breathtaking I was not bothered at all (ok, maybe some sweaty palms). I would HIGHLY recommend these two spots, and Yosemite in general.
