They tout themselves as world class and then fall short. It's disappointing that they don't even have daily specials. Worth one dinner if you're staying in the hotel but not worth repeating.

What's happened to the world famous Ahwahnee Dining Room?

Last week, our family and friends traveled to Yosemite for our annual October birthday celebration gathering. We always schedule a celebration dinner at the Ahwahnee Dining Room during our annual week-long trip. This year, the event was a complete disaster!

Even though we had made reservations a week in advance, we waited much too long to be seated in the Dining Room. We waited another 15 minutes for our server to come to our table greet us, and had to ask specifically to see the wine list. One member of our party ordered a whole wheat pasta dish, but to his surprise, he was served something completely different that was not even on the menu. When the food was delivered to the table, our server said nothing about the error, so our friend had to call our server back to the table to ask why he had not received what he had actually ordered? Our server told him the kitchen had substituted something else because they had no whole wheat pasta. In addition, our friend was given a "half order" instead of a "whole order"! Our server apologized but made no adjustment to our final bill.

What's happened to the service and food at the Ahwahnee Dining Room? In past years, it was always a highlight of our Yosemite visit, but this time, it was a horrible, over-priced experience! We'll schedule October birthday celebration gathering at the Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge during our next trip to Yosemite. Doesn't have the grandeur of the Ahwahnee Dining Room but it does have better service and food.

The Ahwahnee dining room is not cheap, but the food selection and quality; the service and dining room make it a winner. Book a dinner here when you make lodging accommodations and know that you are going to be in the park. Day of reservations are often available, but typically late (8pm).

The food was outstanding. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free menus are readily available. The vegetarian French Onion Soup was excellent.

The dress code has been relaxed, jacket and tie are no longer required, but still check it with them to make sure you are appropriately attired.

One side we had a disappointing meal at the Yosemite Lodge Dining room, which was virtually the same price, so while the Ahwahnee is expensive, it is a better value

Firstly the hotel and surroundings are amazing, beyond this the hotel is anything other than what its decor or setting deserves.

To begin, we were staying in Yosemite lodge and thought it would be a great place for a nice meal. After finishing a walk we were close to the hotel so thought we would make a dinner reservation only to be told they were entirely booked for the week. Which we took as truth. Only to realise later the employee hadn't even checked her computer. So we tried another employee who was more than helpful and gave us numerous options for a reservation. We can only think the first employee didn't think we were good enough for the place, which is shocking to say the least. I sent a complaint to the management to ask them to explain this in the hope a judgement would never again be made against other people. But I have had no response!

When we attended our meal after been told we must wear shirt and trousers, we noticed that people were wearing trainers etc so it is beyond me why they tell ppl one thing yet don't abide by it. The food was much below what u pay for; fatty meat, dry Yorkshire puddings and mash which tasted like smash! The highlights of the night were the wine, the building and the pianist nothing to do with the way the hotel is ran.

My son Sam and I spent 3 nights in Yosemite in June to celebrate his 16th birthday, so brunch at the Ahwahnee was a special treat. Yes it was expensive, but the selection of food on offer from seafood to pancakes, cheeses, traditional cooked breakfast, fresh fruits and everything you could imagine, was astounding and very delicious. We had the cooked breakfast, followed by some pancakes and maple syrup, followed by a selection of small cakes. When I booked they asked me if it was for a special occasion and so they appeared at the end of breakfast with a cake, birthday candle and "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on a white platter. A lovely touch and much appreciated by Sam and I. We camped in Curry Village, so brunch at The Ahwahnee coupled with a guided hike to Yosemite Falls with John from Yexplore Yosemite Tours were the high light of our trip to this beautiful park. The quality of craftsmanship of the construction and decoration of the barn sized dining hall & the whole hotel is incredible and difficult to imagine until there. Like the scale of the park itself, photos don't really do it justice.
