Owner description: Eminently accessible and popular, the Mist Trail takes hikers through Yosemite National Park to Vernal Fall Bridge, the best place to watch the waterfall.

Try and make this your first hike of the day if you go in the summer. It is a bit difficult and a bit treacherous as you near the top what with steep steps that are wet and the other folks on the trail. Give yourself plenty of time, take stops if needed but do go to the top. This is probably the one true hike you should do in Yosemite if you only have time for one. Be sure and wear sneakers or good hiking shoes, no flip flops!

The mist trail takes you past Vernal and Nevada falls. A mile or two beyond the top the trail splits and the left side takes you to the base of half dome on the John Muir trail, the right to Merced lake, an additional 10 miles or so. The climb is not difficult if you take your time, it is stone steps most of the way, over 500 for each of the falls. The light is spectacular at dawn, the falls are worth the hike every day of the year. If you're headed to Half Dome, don't forget to get a permit in advance.

The thing about this hike is that one can do it any time of the year, since both falls are fed by rivers. There are a lot of pple on this hike, and it's not difficult, but not easy either, esp.if one is kind of out of shape. Do the usual hike up and take John Muir down. Would be easier on the legs and safer. And wear proper hiking shoes or sandals if possible please, some parts can be super rocky

If you only have a limited amount of time to spend and can only do 1 or 2 hikes, this is the basic one to do. Nothing like feeling the mist from Vernal Falls on your face. This is a medium effort trail up to Vernal falls and depending on season and weather it takes on a different look and feel. In July, we missed the "mist" on the path so we had to walk further out on the rocks below the falls to get the real effect. During the winter it has a whole different look and may even get closed. Take this up and see how you do. If adventurous, scale the last part on the rails and make your way up to Vernal Falls and relax there and enjoy your accomplishment before heading back down the trail. Good basic hike to get the minimum hiking experience in Yosemite Valley.

Put yourself on this trail and you will be wowed. It's gorgeous. Bring your camera. You need to wear a descent pair of shoes and be ready to climb a few steps, but anybody can do it.
