There is a nice hike down to the Tuolumne Grove to see some the of Giant Sequoias. These trees are amazing and huge! The hike back is up hill, but it's not bad at all. Definitely worth the walk in.

We wanted to see the red woods while in Yosemite and this is the only option right now. There were 7 of us and a guide. My mother in law who is 67 was with us and our kids range in age from 13 to 6. It is all downhill to get there and all uphill to get back. There are bathrooms in the parking lot that are clean use them before the hike! it is a little over 2 miles roundtrip.
We loved it, there was a long huge tree that had fallen and had been hollowed out that the kids climbed through. There are some great big trees to see and take pix with.
Take lots of water with you and take it slow the altitude makes the hiking much harder in Yosemite.

Since the Mariposa Grove is closed until 2017, the only chance we would have to see the Sequoia trees was this hike. It was snowing when we began our trek, but it wasn't too cold. The hike down - 1 mile - is very easy, but the hike back up is fairly steep. One does not have to be in great condition, but be aware that it is a climb. We only saw about 8 Sequoia trees because we took the first, short loop, but we felt that we saw enough. We thoroughly enjoyed the hike!

Mariposa Grove was, unfortunately, 'closed for renovation,' (whatever that means!), so we chose Tuolumne Grove as we didn't want to leave Yosemite without seeing some giant sequoias. The worst, (and I use that term lightly), thing about this hike is that it is an easy downhill ramble to the trees, but a rather steep hike back to the car park. But that is a very small price to pay indeed given the beauty of the trees themselves. There is something spectacularly calming about being in the presence of these colossi. It smells so gorgeous here and the sound of the breeze moving through these beautiful trees is so relaxing. It is awe inspiring how long they have been rooted to place. This really is a place to pause, to sit and quiet any chaos. Highly recommended. If you can, bring a really great book and sit amoung these beauties for a spell. It will do you so much good.

The worst part about this hike is that its downhill on the way to the trees...because that means its uphill on the way back to your car! But the huge trees are worth the exercise, and we really enjoyed being able to crawl through the logs and walk through the "tunnel". It is a beautiful area. Not to be missed!

With Mariposa Grove being closed we still wanted to see Giant Sequoias on our first visit to Yosemite. The hike was somewhat steep and we had to climb over two different trees that had fallen onto the path and were covered in ice from the snow. The trees were impressive, but we wished we could have seen more of them.
