“Great Short Hike with a View”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

This is a beautiful hike. You go through a tree area with moss and creeks (during the spring/summer) and end up at a breathe taking view.

Hiking to the point is downhill. So what goes down, must come up! The hike is moderate and well worth the effort to get there.

At the point itself, the valley floor is 3000 feet below. Thank goodness there is a metal railing there! You get a different perspective of the west end of the valley from here. A beautiful view of Yosemite Falls and the valley below. Of course, the fissures are here as well.

“Remember this the most”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

With all the beauty to see at Yosemite this is the place that I will remember most. We laid on our stomach to look over the edge at the fissures, not at the point but very near it. What an amazing site!!! The walk to Taft Point is not hard but it is more natural than the walks you take in the valley. They do not recommend this area for small children as the pictures show its a long way down.

“great for dinner at sunset”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We didn't go this time, but prefer it to Sentinel Dome, less crowded but still excellent views. We like taking a picnic dinner for sunset and then taking the 1 mile walk back in the dusk/dark (take flashlights).

“Incredible views; not crowded”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Parking at the Taft Point and Sentinel Dome trailheads is limited; there are spots for maybe 20 cars. There is a restroom at the trailhead; it is a port-a-potty type facility with no sinks.

We walked the 1.1 mile trail to Taft Point. The walk is through forest and meadows and is pleasant enough, but not spectacular. Most note-worthy part of the hike was that we saw some mule deer within 2 feet of the trail. But WOW - when you reach the end of the trail! Incredible views of El Capitan and the Valley. My husband and I are cautious around heights, so we did not go all the way up to the edge (there is a metal railing at one small section). But we were still amazed by the views.

The day we were there, climbers had stretched cables between some of the fissures and were tighrope walking at some pretty fearful heights. It was interesting to watch.

We saw maybe 10 other people on this hike and at this outlook, other than the people who were waliking the cables. I think it was the least crowded of everything we saw at Yosemite. The hike back to the parking lot is almost all uphill, so rest up before you head back.

“Must See Views!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

A short hike that offers incredible views of El Capitan & a 270 degree view of the Yosemite valley. If you suffer from acrophobia, you can get close to the ledges as there are hand holds. Certainly a place to check out.
