“Beautiful Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

The property is beautiful and the scenery is amazing. There is a large porch where you can just sit and enjoy the quiet. In the lobby, there's plenty of seating. The restaurant was incredible for dinner. You can expect to spend about $100 per couple but the food was outstanding. You get a free continental breakfast which includes a hot beverage, juice, yogurt, banana bread, muffin, granola and fruit salad. You can get a hot breakfast for an additional charge of $8. There is a pool on the property which never seems to be crowded. There is also horseback riding for $65 for a two-hour ride. My husband went on the ride and thought it was really nice. Now for the rooms - the only reason why I gave this hotel four stars instead of five is because the rooms are very small. Also, there is no air conditioning which is fine because it's cool in the evenings but you will want to keep your windows open which means you can hear people outside. I thought this would ruin my sleep but I slept like a log. There is a large fountain outside the hotel and the sound of the water is very soothing and it put me right to sleep. On a final note, there is no cell phone service in the park. The hotel has a nice seating area where there is Wifi. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed there for our anniversary last week. We booked three nights but stayed only one. We expected old hotel but were disappointed that the room and porch in front it was not clean. We stayed in a separate houses behind the main hotel. Room did not have bathroom and that was a major problem as we had to share it with others. Porch has not been cleaned in months so every time you go to the bathroom you bring all dirt in the room.Later we discovered that the best showers are the public ones next to the Golf shop, but it is a distance from the rooms. There is no WI-FI except close to the Golf shop. #g is sporadic and not very good. All together be prepared for camping like experience here. The price they charge per room cannot be justified at all. That is what monopoly does to quality and pricing. And BTW, breakfast matches the rest. Bring your own food unless you like cheap fatty food.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with shower and check it out before you move in.

The Wawona hotel is located in Yosemite National Park near the Mariposa Grove where the giant Sequoia trees are and there is a shuttle bus that runs many times a day that takes you to that part of the park. However, there is only a once a day shuttle that takes you to Yosemite Valley. This is an old hotel and only about half the rooms have baths which I understand you have to book a year in advance to get. Since I did not, I got a room with a shared bath, but did not find the experience that bad. They provide you with nice robes to make the journey to the bathroom more comfortable. The are also hiking trails near the hotel and it is much more peaceful staying here than in Yosemite Valley.

Wawona Hotel is one hour away from the Yosemite Valley, and is quaint. However, when we booked we were not told that the shared bath room would be two floors down. although the bathrooms are modern and clean, it was very inconvenient to have the bathrooms on a different floor.

It is nice that the hotel is only a 20 minute drive to the road that leads to Glacier Point -- very convenient to drive up to glacier point before heading up to Yosemite valley.

Room Tip: If you are taking a room with shared bath - make sure you know how far away you are from the bath! W...

We went there but booked late, for july only in may . Our room was just horrible. Very small and super hot. This would be ok, if we had not payed 150$ a night, this is just a rip off. One could rent these rooms for < 100 Dollar and tell you that you probably will sleep at 100 °F/30°C.
Otherwise the hotel is beautiful, has a lot of atmosphere and charme. The bathrooms are perfectly renovated and it is not at all a problem to share a bathroom. Also the pool is nice and large.
In conclusion its a nice hotel, but the small rooms are very overpriced.
Instead I would recommend to camp for 20$ , if however you get a campsite.
Is cool during the night and the campgrounds are very nice.

We were fortunate to get a room in the historic, quaint Wawona Hotel inside Yosemite. Our room with bath was pricey, but not luxorious. The rooms have no radio, tv, clocks or telephones. We had radiator heat which was set to come on for 2 hours in the morning and evening. That was adequate for a cold night in May. The furnishings and fixtures are from the early 1900's. Despite the price, I am glad I have the memory of staying there.

This historic hotel is very charming, well-maintained (both the hotel and the grounds), and has very good management. We did have a minor problem and the hotel management resolved it very quickly and efficiently.

On some evenings they had Tom Bopp, a pianist play in an area off the main lobby. He said he was from Chicago years ago, and has another gig in California from October to May. He was very entertaining. The hotel does come around and sell wine, etc. during his performance. They have an excellent selection of wine and their Pinot noir is outstanding and reasonably priced.

As some others have said, you have to carry your luggage, etc. a long ways from the turn-around drive-up entrance, and walk a ways to the parking lots. This was not a problem for us but it may be for some.

We did try their meals and they were good. A Continental Breakfast was included with our room. It is very basic, but good. If you want something better, of course they have a good menu if you choose to pay for something else. They also have very good coffee which you can obtain just outside the dining room early in the morning and take back to your your. There is a problem with the cups they use though. They are not insulated nor do they have the insulated slip on covers other places put on such cups. The coffee is very very hot and difficult to carry back to your room!

Because it is historic, they do not have air conditioning in the rooms but they do have fans available. They also do not have TVs. This is fairly standard in the national parks, especially in historic buildings.

It takes approximately 1 hour to drive to the Yosemite Village depending on the traffic and road construction. A bus is available from Winona to the nearby Mariposa Grove. Do not try to drive there since there is very limited parking available!
