“Best Trip Ever!!!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

My family went up for 5 days the August and had the best stay ever. Carol & Neal were more then accommodating and friendly. My family really needed this vacation for many reasons and Carol & Neal were so understanding & helpful. The place lived up to it's name in every way. It was cozy and decorated nicely in bear motif. It was clean and very well stocked with everything you will need to make a comfortable stay. Thank you Carol & Neal. We hope to come back next year. Marla Rodriguez & Family

We enjoyed a 3-night stay in Cozy Bear South cottage. The booking communication with the owners Carol and Neal was clear and speedy with good directions and descriptions of the cottage. There is limited accomodation in Yosemite if you are not camping so Cozy Bear is well worth the extra expense given its central location at Yosemite West but you save on meals out as you can cook in the kitchen or out on the large BBQ. Only a short drive to Glacier Point (a must see), Mariposa Grove and Yosemite Village. The cottage was cutely decorated with all the bear theme curtains, tables, bedspreads and soap dispensers! Made it a fun stay. The cottage is well appointed, clean and comfortable. The only negative unfortunately was that we could hear new noisy neighbours in the adjoining cottage on the last night who were slamming doors with their crying baby in the early hours but that is not the owners' fault.

A tad expensive but anything close to the Park would be. It was quite comfortable for the four of us, parents and kids, ages 21 and 25. Not our decorating scheme but the convenience to the Park just can't be beat. Bedding was very nice. My one drawback is that there are only sheers on the windows. Bright sunshine woke us early every morning. Blinds would be nice.

We stayed 3 nights in mid June. The unit more than met our expectations. It will comfortably sleep 5 people. A couple of things to be aware of:
1. Our GPS didn't take us there. The unit is down the road from wherre our GPS said we were.
2. As has been pointed out, the unit doesn't have AC and it was hot when we were there, but we found that leaving the windows open and the fans on, there was not a problem.
3. There are no grocery stores within 40 miles except for the Yosemite Village Store in the valley. I'd suggest stocking up in Mariposa, Oakhurst or Lee Vining, depending where you're coming from. The closest restaurants are in the Valley and maybe Wawona (the hotel).
4. The drive to the valley is pleasant.
5. The owners live next door and are very nice and helpful.

Our Cozy Bear Cottage was very comfortable for our family of four and you can't beat the location inside the park. Having the use of a kitchen saved us some $$$ as well. Our cottage was about 20-30 minutes from Glacier Point and Yosemite Valley so it's very convenient.

The cottages are located in Yosemite West which seems to be mostly rental property inside the park. Depending on where you are staying it could be a very steep drive into the various developments which isn't an issue unless there is ice or you're towing something heavy.

Couple of things to note: our unit did not have AC which we didn't know since there is a thermostat that engages a fan. There are also plenty of ceiling fans to circulate the air but given that Yosemite was in the middle of a heat wave when we were there (June 2012) it was a bit warm at night. Normally i doubt this is an issue.

Also, if possible, try and arrive during the daylight hours as getting around Yosemite West can be a little confusing. Neal and Carol will send you a map, use it :-) Our GPS was often at odds with the real roads in this area.

Carol and Neal (the owners) live next door to our cottage and were very attentive which we appreciated. All in all we'd stay there again.

We stayed two nights at L'il bear in September. Yosemite west is about 25 mins out of theain town but still in the park - very close to glacier point entrance and mariposa grove so very convenient. The cottage had obviously had a lot of thought put into it and the pictures were very accurate.
The place was clean and cozy, washer/dryer was useful and the satellite TV a great luxury.
Everything was very clean, the kitchen well stacked and the owners who lived upstairs very helpful without being intrusive. Great correspondance before we arrived. Only downside was the barking at night, but that is probably hard to escape in Yosemite.
Would def recommend as a great base to explore the park.
Make sure you fill up on gas and shop for food before entering the park.

We spent three nights at the Cozy Bear south unit this summer while visiting Yosemite NP. It is some distance from the crowds and bustle of Yosemite Valley, and that was just fine by us. The Cozy Bear is not so much a cottage, but rather a 4-level, 2-unit building. Open the door and you find yourself on level one which contains a big comfortable couch for at least six, a fireplace, and a television. A few steps up to the second level leads to the laundry room, the patio, and a kitchen. (We came in the I-41N entrance and stocked up on provisions at Trader Joe’s in Fresno and Von’s in Oakhurst before entering the park). The third level features the bathroom and the larger of the two bedrooms. The second bedroom is a few steps up on the fourth level. The stairs were no problem for us, but if you require ramps or an elevator, seek lodgings somewhere else.

Our unit was clean and well-maintained by the owners. The building is on a sloping woodsy lot which is quite pleasant to take in from the patio over a meal and drinks. If you fancy an evening stroll, just amble down the driveway to the road and walk around to your heart’s content in the pleasant surroundings. If you enjoy noise and traffic and rec halls and swimming pools, this is not the place for you. If you enjoy relative peace and quiet and easy access to one of the USA’s loveliest national parks, I’d say Cozy Bear will suit you. One hint: the owners have a couple of lively little dogs, so if you want to minimize a bit of barking, ask for the south unit when making reservations.
