“Open Air Tram Tour Worth The Price”

I highly reccomend opting for the open air tram tours as you have no barrier between you and the sights. The Valley Floor tram tour was great! We stopped in the valley and at Tunnel View. We learned a lot about the park from the ranger who led the tour and got a lot of great pictures. The park is so large that walking everywhere would be too much for most people and famlies. I highly reccomend mixing in tours with hikes so your trip is more ejnoyable. Also, if you are touring in the summer, be sure to do the tram tour early in the morning. It gets really hot by mid day and you will start to melt otherwise.

This tour is good to take. Gives you a good overview of the park. You ride in an open tram. The tour guide was excellent. It only takes about a hour and 15 mins. and it is offered several times a day. We took the 6pm tour which was nice because the light is great that time of day. The tour guide pointed out rock climbers on El Capitan which was really fun to see. Highly recommend this tour! Also they take you to the Tunnel View which is the best overall view of Yosemite Valley.

While seeing the valley floor independent of your own vehicle and in an open air environment, there were some things that we didn't care for. Too many people were crammed onto the tram. We were lucky to have only 4 adults in our row, but others had even more, with their few kids on laps. The tour operator was a nice young gal, but this was not a tour designed for kids (there were only a couple on this tour), yet she talked to us like we were little kids the whole time. And she never stopped talking. We were more interested in hearing the geological info history of the park, than we were with putting our arms in the air exclaiming "weeeee" as we departed on our tour. Funny thing was she didn't get why she wasn't getting participation from a tram full of adults for antics like this. And the giggling over topics like how climbers remove their bodily waste from their climb (even though no one asked) was childish.

The tram did come with fresh water, which you'll need as you need to remember you are exposed in full sun and heat. Bring your own water bottle, as there are only two stops with which to use the paper cups provided by the tour. The tour is supposed to be 2 hours for the fee paid. Ours started late and ended early, and did NOT include even a drive past the Ahwahnee Hotel, an architectural marvel and historic site that should not be overlooked on a visit to Yosemite.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about Yosemite. This two hour tour gives a decent perspective of the Valley Floor and the view from below.

The only room for improvement would be to allow more than 10 minutes to stop and take photos. This seemed very rushed and didn't really allow for time to truly experience the awe of the landscape. Also, perhaps stop at more than two places?

The first stop had bathroom facilities, but that would leave very little time. The guide also provided glasses of water to anyone who needed hydration. After 2 hours in the sun, take a sip!

This is an open air bus, so be sure to wear sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Get a seat on the left hand side of the bus for the best views / clean shots for photography that doesn't include the heads of other tourists.

We stayed three days at the Yosemite Lodge and had a grand time using the Shuttle Buses to get around to different points of interest and places to go walking. Such an amazing corner of our world!
However the highlight would be the Valley Floor Tour we took on their open topped trailer. It was comfortable and very easy to see around from. And they made stops at points of interest with time for photos. The best part was that we had such an excellent guide, a young Park Ranger called Adam --- he told us all the stories of the park in a light and interesting way, with a touch of humour. And he made us all stop and think and listen and be a part of the symphony of the Valley. And his John Muir quote was perfect, to be remembered for always. Excellent. Thank you.
