We had the best experience at Ruzas place! We will definitely be back and next time bring even more people with us! Great open space, bright and inviting! Plenty of room for everyone to hang out together or do their own thing. If I had any complaints it would be we didn't stay long enough...only 4 days! And this is being really picky but a hotub upgrade would make it ideal!! The little soft tub barely fit 3 of us. But that won't stop us from going again! Scott is so kind and easy to deal with, as is his caretaker. Such a great experience!! And the hour drive to the valley is beautiful and doesn't feel to long at all!
The Casa that Ruza Built is THE perfect place for my family and my girlfriends’ families to stay at while visiting Yosemite! We’ve stayed there three years in a row and won't consider staying anywhere else. The house is so well furnished; all we need to bring is food. We love the location of the house; it’s cleanliness, roominess and the warmth/love we can feel that went into building the house.
Our stay at The House that Ruza Built exceeded our expectations. It is a beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and perfectly located home. We were a party of nine and there was more than enough room for us. It was a great base from which to visit Yosemite National Park. Scott was very helpful with my initial enquiries and assistance with a few small queries during our stay. We only wished we had more time to stay and enjoy - we are already talking of coming back one day.
The house is great. It is impeccable and in excellent condition. It has every amenity you can think of while still maintaining the outdoors cabin feel you desire when traveling to a place like Yosemite.
The owner was great at communicating even without being physically present at the house. There is no cell reception, but the owner made sure to communicate that with me ahead of time, which I appreciated. To compensate, the house provides a house phone as well as WiFi.
It is priced reasonably and is only 2 miles South of the South Entrance to Yosemite, as well as 15-20 minutes North of Bass Lake.
I definitely plan on visiting again.

We booked the house for our short visit to Yosemite National Park. The house is only a short drive to the south gate, took us about 45-60 mins to drive to the valley floor.
The house is up a small private road and had a few neighbouring properties. The owner of the house obviously feels very proud of the history involved in the property and his family history, the house is beautifully decorated with his grandmothers painting.
The house has lots of amenities...there are books, games and DVDs to keep all ages entertained. The house has wifi...and it seemed to work quite well considering the location. The hot tub on the lower balcony and the steam shower were both wonderfully relaxing after a heavy day in the parks. The upper balcony with chairs and table were wonderful to relax on in the evening and watch the wildlife.
Nearest shops and restaurants are about 20mins drive away in Oakhurst. Bass lake was about the same distance. The sugar pine railroad was about 5mins and well worth a visit.
This was a lovely property, well equipt with everything you might need and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we ever return to The area.
Our stay at "The House That Ruza Built" was awesome! The house was clean and perfect for our needs! I really enjoyed learning about the history and naming of the house and Ruza's paintings throughout the house was a very nice touch. Scott, the owner was very helpful and informative. Having such a nice house to stay in made our vacation great!
