Our trip consisted of half a week in Yosemite and half a week in Lake Tahoe. We used the Tioga Pass Rd (only open in summer) to get to Lake Tahoe, and we are so glad we did. We used a guidebook from Readers Digest to pick out the best stops along the road, and we did a majority of them including May Lake and Olmstead Point. Both of these are definitely must sees! Bring bug spray or wear long sleeves and pants for May Lake hike as the standing water from melting snow caused a lot of mosquitos to be around. This hike is rocky so make sure good shoes are worn and a walking stick may have been helpful in some areas. Not heavily travelled, but an amazing walk with great views on the way up. Hike was about 1 mile up and 1 mile back so definitely doable though you are climbing up an incline to the top of this slope until you reach the lake. So glad that we stopped here for this beauty! Lots of amazing pictures on this hike to stop and take.

If Yosemite isn't on your bucket list, it bloody well should be. We only had two days there but around every corner is the most stunning, jaw dropping beautiful and awe inspiring nature. You could spend weeks there and still not see it all.
Go. Go. Go.

This is probably the least advertised area (for us) but wow - I would have loved to know about this before I got there. There seemed to be a ton of things to do, but just didn't know what there was there. Don't miss this area, and plan ahead!

During this 39-mile drive, you'll experience a variety of vistas - alpine lakes and meadows, canyons, forests even wetlands. We stopped roadside for a picnic. A nice afternoon. Take the time - you'll enjoy it.

Tioga Pass has impressive views both driving up to the park, and driving back down towards Mono Lake. We have driven this beautiful pass often as we like to go from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Eastern Sierras due to the amazing beauty there, fishing and vacationing.

It is an awesome way to enter into Yosemite National Park.

In the winter Tioga Pass/Toulumne Meadow area is closed due to snow. It is high elevation area so snow is also heavy in this area and impossible for the road to be cleared. For the first few snows of the winter, it is sometimes just a temporary closure. They try to get the pass open as soon as possible again in the spring. As such, its good to check the open/closure dates of Tioga Pass if you are coming to visit Yosemite Park.
