Owner description: This clear lake is a popular hiking spot.

Sadly no mirror or great reflections during the summer as the mirror is a mere creek. However, an easy and pleasurable walk to a scenic location was required in between the challenging walks up the falls - Mirror Lake proved an ideal choice. Take a picnic lunch and a towel and a good day will be enjoyed.

I'm not sure what trail others were on when they said this was a beautiful hike, but it was nothing of the sort. Horse rides are offered on this trail and their droppings are everywhere. And I don't mean you will occasionally encounter a pile; the path is completely littered with it and you will be, at times, stomping through powdered poop. The sand is an odd consistency also. It's almost like beach sand which makes for a challenging walk at times. The 'lake' is truly nothing more than a puddle. Soon it will be a mud pit. There is no reflection of Half Dome to be seen as the little water that is there is brown and murky since it is so shallow.

I had high hopes, this was something I was really looking forward to in Yosemite. I had read other negative reviews but chose to believe the positive ones instead. That was a mistake. If you do visit, you will leave feeling saddened that such a gorgeous natural attraction exists no more.

This is no longer a must see as with the decision some years ago to stop dredging the lake, it is more a river or creek bed than lake. Looks nothing like the photos in visitor centre and movie. However there are a few spots where can get a reasonable reflection plus it is a good picnic spot and water area for kids entertainment although water very cold. We had a bear sighting but that cannot be guaranteed on every visit. If pressed for time, not a must see anymore but use your imagination as to what it was if you do the 30 minute walk in from bus stop.

The water and the surrounding is at its best in April to around July. We have been in April and seen the best Mirror reflection of the dome and the surrounding.

The hike is around 2 miles to and fro. The last has a bit of a gentle climb but manageable. Restrooms are available ( pit ). July is disappointing . GO in April. Most of the route is shaded.

Mirror Lake may have once been a lake, but now its a field or at best, a wetland. But it's definitely no longer a lake. Still, it's lovely, and a great way to see it is via a horse/mule trail ride.
