Earlier in the year we stayed at Yosemite Lodge and were pleasantly surprised to find that the old, really bad, cafeteria run the previous concessionair had been replaced with the Base Camp Eatery, a multi-station mostly cook-to-order food service and a large Starbucks. Finally the food doesn't embarrass us in front of foreigners. So many times I had seem them bewhidered by the bad food. Good going Aramark!

But when we returned in Nov. 16 we found that they had reverted to mostly pre-cooked food kept warm under lights. We all know that old scrambled eggs are hardly edible, not to mention that they were full of cheese, frustrating lactos intollerant guests for no reason, and hamburgers kept warm under lights are dry and unpleasant. And it was not even a very busy period.

Please go back to the original format. In-N-Out has figured it out, you can too. People will be wiling to wait some and even pay a little more if they can get good food the way they want it. Your Starbucks can make dozens of kinds of coffee to order. A five star rating is within reach.

Think low budget freshman dorm fare. Zero stars especially because it's the only breakfast and lunch restaurant at or near Yosemite Lodge! We booked 3 nights at the Lodge. The rooms were $285/night for 2 queen beds. I only tell the rate because you expect to eat better for that much per night. Everything tasted like it was reconstituted from a powder mix. The burgers were brown, rubbery putty wafers. The eggs were like drying mortar. Even the fruit cups were old. There is a Starbucks next door but that's hard to live on. The thought of going back there chased us out of the park.

Came here almost everyday to have my dinner, and one of the ladies that manned the cashier was extremely friendly. They even gave me more cos they said they dont want to waste the food. Agreed that the ordering at the kiosks were a bit Chaotic (only for the grill stall, the pizza you will queue direct and pay after) and can be improved upon. All and all a good place to have a meal inside Yosemite if you are staying within the park.

We were in Yosemite for the day in early November, so lots of places were closed for the season. This was one of only 2 breakfast places - cafeteria style. The eggs were sub-par, but bacon and sausage were great. Potatoes so-so. The blintzes were surprisingly good, and the biscuit was pretty good. Good coffee from the adjoining Starbucks (!).

I had big hopes for the new concessionaire in Yosemite National Park but based on how they are operating Base Camp, this may be a long unhappy ride. It appears that all the food is prepared in advance and sits under a warning light, and sits, and sits, and sits until the unknowing diner comes by. On top of this, the portions are small and not terribly satisfying. They are still trying to find their way so perhaps things will improve in the future. The pizza at the Pizza Desk at Camp Curry is still great and I highly recommend it.
