“Ok motel, just to shower and sleep...”
Reviewed January 24, 2014 via mobile

Buildings is really old even the renovated rooms. The walls are very thin , you can hear people urinate and fart next door. Carpet is pretty old and dirty.

Other than that it's a place inside the park you can shower and sleep at.

Most visitors to Yosemite are not there to spend much time in their hotel (I hope). If you're very concerned with staying in an amazing hotel, you should probably stay at the Ahwahnee. The lodge is perfectly fine but not luxurious. The buildings are dorm-style and free standing, so be prepared to walk from the lobby and parking. The rooms are very nice and have a hotel feel, though the buildings are rustic. Nice porch/deck with table and chairs and amazing views of the park. Service at the desk is very friendly, but slow and not very efficient. No matter. This is a great base to do activities around the park, very close to the falls hikes and easy to walk to Yosemite Village. You will have everything you need, with a food court and store a few buildings away. Some of the bathrooms seem to be newly renovated. There is a minifridge in the room, but no other kitchen stuff. Walls are thin-- we had musical accompaniment from our neighbors' country album most nights. It gives you the feeling of camping, although you are indoors. The rooms also come equipped with flat screen TVs and iPod speakers, so they seem newly updated, though we did not use these since we were out enjoying the outdoors.

I'm not sure how people can give this hotel 5 stars. While I can understand that the location is AWESOME it doesn't take away from the fact the hotel is in desire need of repairs and renovations. The rooms are not cheap here by any means. We did not get a renovated room. We got a room in the Hemlock building. Our view was WONDERFUL. We were in a room that slept 4. It had a queen bed and a bunk bed. The bottom bunk was at least a full size. The top bunk could see right into the bathroom (luckily, not the toilet and shower area). The bathroom was dated and need a good clean (a little mold in the shower). The furniture did look updated. The room had a refrigerator. For a January visit it was very cold. The heating in the room is not very good. So, bring extra blankets from home. In fact, I would bring my sleeping bags. The window in the room had these slacks in it that let in tons of cold air. It looks like the hotel boarded it up with cardboard and tape. The unit had a portable heater which helped a little bit but not much. It really didn't keep the cold air out. I did not sleep well. My family slept fine as they were not on the side of the window. Honestly, it felt like I was camping with the cold air. The room does not have coffee pot as others have pointed out. It is a long walk to the cafeteria for your free coffee/tea/cocoa. So, I did bring our own electric hot water pot to make our own tea. Also, the outlets lack electronic charging power. So, plan accordingly. There is a cafeteria and restaurant at the hotel. We ate at the restaurant and it was good. The hotel is within walking distance of Yosemite Falls. There are no elevators in the buildings. The building reminded me of my college dorms. I wasn't expecting luxury but I was expecting functional. I would never give this place 5 stars. But also realize that I would return because it is Yosemite. I'm on the fence about whether I'd come back to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room facing either the falls or granite rocks.

We visited in early December 2013. We showed up just before an evening-through-night snowstorm, so we were able to drive down into the valley safely and enjoy the night (while waiting for friends who were still on their way). The snowfall was really romantic and beautiful and left the whole valley in a pretty magical winter wonderland.

The pros: great location, free parking, shuttle service to everywhere. We shuttled to and from the Ahwahnee for dinner and a few drinks. The cafeteria has some not bad food, and the bar has a huge fire pit that you can set up at.

The cons: I had found a good deal on a room back in June--had I paid the full price for the room, my rating probably would not be as high. The rooms are fine, but nothing special. The power went off a couple of times during the day, which was a bit disconcerting.

You can't beat this location when you want to make the most of your time here! Yosemite Lodge is located in the heart of the valley, directly across from the Mountain Lodge Restaurant, bar, gift shops and food court. It's also steps away from Lower Yosemite Falls which is an easy and fun walk to do with young kids or if you have a half hour to kill. There's hardly any water this winter and the river is so low that you can climb all over the river rocks and get right up to the base of Lower Yosemite Falls.

We stayed in the Maple unit where the rooms have been recently renovated. It's very clean and spacious with a mini fridge and flat screen TV. However, noisy neighbors can be heard through the thin walls. The heater didn't seem to have temperature control, so it was either on or off and the room got cold. The other major complaint was the poor bedsheets -- the flat sheet was too short and didn't reach high enough. The comforter was so heavy that it kept moving one way while we pulled the sheets the other way, so we didn't get a great night's sleep.

We were looking for a mini vacation at the last minute when I stumbled upon the great rates at Yosemite Lodge for January! Since the weather was predicted to be mild and we are in a drought year, seemed like there was a good chance we would not get snow or rain. What a fantastic five days! Many times we had the road to ourselves, never seeing another car. Same with the trails. We spotted deer all over the place, even got to see a herd of bucks jousting, bashing their antlers together. Anyway, the Yosemite Lodge did not disappoint. We were in the Laurel Building, which is an end building. We were on the second floor, which I highly recommend since it tends to be quieter and with better views. It looked like the room had been newly renovated and it was a vast improvement over the rooms I remember from five years ago, which were looking quite worn and rundown back then. The room we had provided two double beds with nice hunks of polished wood as the headboards. The lighting fixtures were made to look like sticks from trees and the chairs were made of faux wood branches. The pictures on the walls were nice too. Bathroom was very clean, closet space was adequate for the two of us. We were glad that TVs had been added to rooms (they didn't have them before) ... flat screen ones. There was a small refrigerator under the sink, which came in handy. Second floor rooms have a nice sized balcony with table and chairs, though it was too chilly to sit outside. It looks like more rooms were under renovation. All in all, we had a very comfortable stay and would definitely return to the Yosemite Lodge. You just can't beat the convenience of staying in the park.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have vaulted ceilings, a sizable balcony, will be quieter (no footsteps overhead) and...

I'm not sure about prices at other hotels in Yosemite, but location is everything and all charge way above what you would pay outside. But I'm ok with that, and with lying in bed looking at that fantastic view. Service at check-in was efficient, despite the mid-evening rush. The lodge buildings appear well-used and could be better. Room was fine. Not modern nor clinically clean. But we had no issues. We arrived at night and had no idea of the wonders around us. But in the morning we were greeted by that view when we looked out. The heating was adequate, showers were terrific, towels and linen did their job. Our room had a private balcony and that would be great in the summer. That was in the Hemlock building, upstairs. We had a meal in the bar - the only place to get food after 9 pm. Really good, service friendly. We also had lunch in the food court. Good. I should mention all guests get free hot drink coupons for the cafeteria. I won't talk too much about about the park - just go!!

Room Tip: Ask for upstairs Hemlock facing the view.
