“Go After Dinner For No Crowds”

Firehole Lake Drive
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 7, 2017

Since we were staying at the Old Faithful Inn, after dinner one evening we drove the nearby Firehole Lake Drive. Most of the time we were alone on the road, and were even alone when we stopped at the lake. How nice after the crowds of the day !

The road is one-way, and there are many pull-outs and parking areas available for you to be able to stop and enjoy the beauty of the area. Along the way you pass geysers, hot lakes, and hot springs. We enjoyed stopping at the lake and being able to walk to the attractions on both sides of the road. The Firehole Lake was beautiful and on one side of the road. Steady Geyser was on the opposite side of the road with Hot Lake and the Black Warrior Lake. Steady Geyser was really active, just as the name implied. The lakes were somewhat eerie with the steam coming off of them. It was like being in a scene from Dante's Peak !

Spectacular views along winding roads between mountains. Great views of waterfalls and water rushing along a river that snakes around curves and walls of stone.

We took the Firehole Lake Drive as a detour off the busy road and it had some nice hot springs and little geysers.

Worth the visit.

Interesting but we had plenty of time. Drive around, stop if you want. If limited on time, skip. Many more beautiful things to see.
