“Most relaxing place in the park”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Very short walk to Old Faithful and some cabins you can see the geyser from your window. I have stayed here several times, but this was the first time back in 15 years. They were still exactly the same and have had some upgrades put in such as locked vending cabins for ice. Staff around the cabins were great. Craig Parks (Manager) talked to us a few times and handled anything we needed done. For our trip we had two cabins and since we were not able to book the whole trip at once it was under several different reservations which turned out to be a piece of cake. Before we arrived we recieved an email that informed us the multiple reservations had been condensed down to one for easy check in and check out. Great place to stay and we can't wait to go back next year!!!!

We spent 2 nights in the Old Faithful Lodge Cabins at the end of our Yellowstone trip. We ended up scoring the jackpot by getting a sweet little cabin on the edge of the complex, overlooking the river. On both check-in and out we had hotel staff tell us it was their favorite cabin! We set up our camp chairs right outside our door and enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. So glad we were NOT in the middle of the complex, cabin on top of cabin. It looked depressing.

Our cabin itself was very clean and comfortable. It was nice to have a sink. It was very hot inside, but we finally figured out how to open the windows and used the fan. We used the shared restrooms, which were very clean. There were only 3 showers, but it didn't turn out to be a problem.

The staff were very kind and helpful. My husband left his reading glasses behind, and they mailed them to us!

This was not our favorite part of the park-- overcrowded, not as much wildlife-- but it was a nice place to stay.

We made our reservation about 8 month in advance and were able to get a cabin near old Faithful. It was a great treat to stay in the park so close to all the thermal area's. We chose 2 cabin's, one for our boys and the other for us.

They are small and funky, but functional and right near the action--thermal boardwalks, visitor center, inn, and lodge. For the 4 or 5 star room person, you may be unhappy, but remember it's all about the park, and Yellowstone can't be beat. Take the Lone Star Trail to escape the crowds.

Room Tip: The frontier cabin is a great value--book way in advance in season.

"We had a great welcome, by a very friendly receptionist.

Our cabin was perfectly clean and functional, close the ice machine and on the edge of the others cabins, which meant we overlooked a stream and meadow.

It was a very short walk to the Geyser basin and once you pass the fuss surrounding old faithful it doesn't take long before you can be on your own enjoying the other geysers."

First I need to say that we love, love, love Yellowstone and go there every 1-2 years. Over the years we have stayed in nearly every type of accommodation they have, from hotels to camping. Our favorite accommodations are the cabins because they are more private.

Having said that, this was our first time to stay in one of the Old Faithful Lodge Cabins. We usually stay in one of the cabins at Mammoth. This cabin was more rustic than the cabins at Mammoth, but in a much better location. We could see Old Faithful from our front window, and the geyser trails are just a short distance away. Our cabin had a bathroom (a necessity for me!), a double bed, and sink outside the bathroom (shower and toilet), and a desk/dresser. We had housekeeping service every day.

We brought a card table and camp chairs, knowing the cabins have very little furniture. We were so glad we did. There is room under the front window for the table, and we were able to put things there instead of on the floor. We were there 5 nights, so we brought games, snacks, etc. etc. We also brought a large cooler and small propane grill to cook hamburgers and hotdogs (after asking first if that is allowed). It is allowed as long as you clean up and bring everything inside after cooking. NO cooking is allowed inside the cabins. As it turned out, we had thunder/lightening storms every afternoon, so were able to grill only 2 out of 5 nights.

We have gone to Yellowstone in the spring, summer, fall and winter, and after going this time in July we know we prefer the early summer or early fall to summer months. After countless trips to Yellowstone the mosquitos have never been so bad for us as they were this July, most likely from all the standing water from the thunder storms every day. This didn't slow us down, we were just thankful we brought Benadryl with us!!

My husband and I spend two nights in a budget cabin on June 10th and 11th of 2013. We were satisfied with our stay here and happy not to spend a fortune to stay in the park. We chose this option, plain and simple, for the price. We wanted a room in the old section of the Inn and called and called but nothing opened up. We were not going to pay the price to stay at the Snow Lodge, however. I was very concerned to have a detached bathroom, that is not exactly my style. I kept my expectations low, knowing that this would be very small and very basic and that it would be a walk to the bathroom. If you know what you are getting into you will not be disappointed. The cabin comes exactly as advertised. If you do not want to walk to the bathroom or need a refrigerator or microwave, pay more and stay somewhere else.

Our cabin was cozy and clean. The bed was comfortable and the linens were perfectly fine. There was a sink, desk and chair. It was a very short walk to the shared bathrooms which I was surprised to find being perfectly clean and not at all unpleasant. I am not a camper and was really expecting the worst here. It honestly was not as bad as I expected. Each shower stall had the shower itself plus a little space to get dressed and place your belongings. There were plenty of stalls and crowding was not an issue. I don't think I ever saw more than one other person in the bathroom. The best thing about staying here though is the location. You can walk to the benches in front of Old Faithful in a matter of minutes.

Basically, if you are not planning on spending much time in the room and are okay with very basic accommodations this is a good place to stay and save a little money. If you are expecting it to be anything like the Hilton, you will be very disappointed.
