There was a large lit fire which gave a lovely atmosphere for evening dining. The food was delicious and the service very good. My husband ordered the special Bison Steak on our first night and it was delivered to our table without any of the accompanying foods that should have been with the 'special' but that error was quickly rectified and he thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The breakfast offers a buffet or foods from a menu. We chose from the menu and it was certainly hot and very tasty.

We stayed at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge for three nights as part of our Trail of the Wolf package and ate all of our meals in the Obsidian Dining Room. Generally, the meals were OK, but nothing special. For breakfasts we had the buffet (average), Obsidian Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon (excellent), huge pancakes (OK) and the Skier’s Special which was bacon and eggs (good). Dinner entrees (especially the fish) tended to be a bit overcooked. We had the crab stuffed trout, Coho salmon, Prime Rib, Ravioli, Mixed game sliders and bison short ribs. The Huckleberry ice cream desert was tasty. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Actually the prices were not as high as we thought they would be since they had a captive audience who could eat nowhere else except the grill. There is a very nice fireplace in the dining room, but it is pretty hot at the tables next to it. Be sure to have reservations ahead of time, because it is busy.

I have been visiting Yellowstone since 1998. Xantera has improved the quality of the food in the park immensely. The bison shortribs were five star! The menu is not large, but, there is something for everyone. Salads are fresh and tasty. The breakfast buffet is very good, if somewhat limited.

Since the last time we ate here in the winter, the dining experience has dramatically improved. The menu selection and the quality of the food has greatly improved and the wait staff members are great. I actually looked forward to eating dinner here at the end of each day. The also offered daily specials that were also good (quail one night and scallops another). The desserts were also wonderful!

I don't like eating at the hotel I stay at but in winter and especially near Old Faithful there are limited choices. It was therefore a good experience to eat at the restaurant where the food and service is excellent. Prices are not expensive either.
