This place has really excellent sustainable food. The menu is well thought out, a little unusual and really tasty. I also like that they do half portions (which are certainly a good sized meal fo the ordinary appetite). Only problem is you can't make reservations and the lines can be long

The food was delicious and the menu had a variety of choices. The wait staff was friendly and served us promptly. Especially efficient in the mornings when everyone was trying to eat and leave for their tours.

There was not much to choose from at Mammoth Hot Springs in the Winter. In spite of this the food at the restaurant was quite good. The service was pleasant. The only real downside - you had to set your meal time far in advance. I guess they keep a smaller staff in the Winter.

We stayed at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel for two nights having pre-booked via the front desk at the Snow Lodge. The dining room building is across the car park from the hotel building with no covered walkway so if the weather is inclement the prospective diner suffers! We found the staff very pleasant apart from one waiter in the morning at breakfast who was particularly dour! The breakfast was very good and tasty. We only had one dinner here due to the fact that we arrived at ten minutes past eight on our first night after a really difficult journey through horrendous weather from the Snow Lodge [ who had informed the Mammoth Hotel that we would be a late check-in] and the dining room/kitchen said we were too late to eat and yet the following evening they were taking people in after 9.00pm! We had dinner the second night courtesy of the hotel as we had complained about our accommodation. The food was quite tasty but we had been seated under an air conditioning outlet/fan so there was a slight chill and the food got cold quickly so we didn't eat it all. The menu looked good and what we ate was very good but it was overpriced but then Xanterra have a captive audience unless you want the five mile drive back to Gardiner [which we had to the first night] to eat in the town. The dining room building was erected in 1937 and has some really lovely architectural design.

We ate dinner and lunch at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel dining room during our one night stay at the hotel in the middle of our Trail of the Wolf snowmobile tour from Old Faithful Snow Lodge and back. While we liked the lodging at the Snow Lodge better than at Mammoth, we liked the meals better at Mammoth. The dinner entrees were Pistachio parmesan crusted trout (deliciouse & cooked perfectly!), Lasagna, smoked bison bratwursts (very tasty) and prime rib. We had a quick lunch the next day before we had to hop back on our snowmobile for a 50-mile tour back to the Snow Lodge. The grilled parmesan crusted turkey and Italian Panini sandwiches were good, but the roasted Red Pepper with Smoked Gouda soup was even better. We had a fun and interesting conversation with the Assistant Manager over dinner and then again during lunch the next day. His knowledge of the area and wit really made this part of the trip special. We thought the prices were reasonable, especially since there was nowhere else for us to eat and they could have charged whatever they wanted.
