That's the best chance to see a lot of bisons walking around, even on the street. If you have some binoculars you can also watch the birds and even some bears walking around in a long distance. Even good for wild life photo shots. Could be a little bit difficult to find a place to park your car next to the street. You should be there early or late at the day.
A beautiful drive and if you have time, pull up in a turn out and wait. We saw bison, elk, a few wolves here. A grizzly was spotted just down the road.
The way this area has been laid out, the turn outs are above the main valley, we felt quite safe stood there watching and waiting.
We visited in October - be prepared for sudden changes in the weather!

This is the epitome of what the serenity of this park is, Quiet peaceful a joy to sit and watch and observe wildlife etc.
Great location for spotting wolves and bears as well as elk bison etc.
Best to visit with a guide who knows where to locate the wildlife but if they are not there 'to order' the scenery makes up for it
We very much enjoyed out time in the Hayden (and Lamar) Valley. Plan to stop-snack-talk-wait if you want to see the more difficult animals to spot, like bear and wolves. We could only see the wolves with our spotting scope, but were happy to give others a peek..don't be afraid to ask! Most folks are quite willing (I hesitated to ask the hard core wolf pack followers with the 5,000.00 Swarovski scope though!!) Lovely views and friendly folks while waiting for the animals to make their appearance!
