“Short walk but gives you a flavour of nature's artistry”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

The loop is less than a mile and has boardwalks. Car park is close by and a walk across the bridge over the Firehole River brings you close to the hot water puring down the banks into the river. There is a lot of steam creating atmospheric photos. We were there on a sunny day so lots of reflection photos of the amazing blue sky in the pools

“Stunning views”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The loop is about 1 mile in length and well worth the hike---viewpoints about a mile east of the Midway Basin on the main loop road with impressive view of the Firehole River.

“The parks largest hot spring Plus other pools too.”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Midway geyser basin is 9 miles south of madison on the west side of the road. 7 miles north of the old faithful area. There is a large parking area here (for good reason) pit toilets, but no services.
This stop is one the most popular in the park, for buses, tour groups, and tourist like us. For this, timing is hit or miss with the crowed. Luckily, if the lot is full you can see other things near by and come back.
The star attraction here, is grand prismatic spring. The largest in the park and the usa for that matter. This is a hot spring pool some 300 ft across and 120 ft deep. (im reading from the tour book on that) The colors on this will simply impress you. One of the most colorful in the park. There is also excelsior geyser (dont count on this one erupting) This is a large pool area with overflow that goes into the river. This is also a colorful feature . There are two more colorful hot spring pools here as well . All of this is accesable by a half mile boardwalk trail.
There is some uphill walking to the boardwalk but only one switchback. Otherwise an easy trail. The birds eye viewpoint people post about is not on the official park map nor trails.I could see folks from the boardwalk with my camera lens. The day i was here had thunderstorms and did not do that. Also, the features here are about the pools and the color not the Geysers as some folks have suggested. That is in the lower geyser basin.
