“Walking and spouting”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Excellent place to see some of the major thermal features of the park. Lots of boardwalks and trails with a wide variety of features. Solitary geyser and the observation point are a nice change of view from the ground level view of the area. Walk not too strenuous if you take your time.

“Put It On Your Itinerary”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Last visited in October. Midway Basin has possibly the most colorful spring in Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic. Excelsior Geyser has great clear blue water. Weather, time of year, and time of day will impact your experience. We have visited this basin many times and our experience has been from “can’t see anything” to “these pictures are beautiful”. Cold air causes a steamy fog as you can see my wife in one of the pictures. At times we could barely see beyond the boardwalk. Wind will blow the steam across the ground, also making it difficult to see. As with all thermal areas, there is a strong sulphur smell and if the wind is blowing, you will probably feel like you need a shower after a few hours. Regardless of Mother Nature, this is a definite stopping place in Yellowstone.

There are lots of photogenic areas in Yellowstone National Park and this is no exception. There are lots of geothermal pools with fantastic colours and edges that draw one's attention. In winter this is a fantastic place.
