“Solitude and Comfort by the Lake”
Reviewed March 7, 2011

We stayed at the Western cabins at Lake Lodge (not the yellow cabins of the Lake Hotel) in July 2010, at the peak of the YNP tourist season. The Lake Lodge is ideally situated to conveniently access all the sights on the lower loop of the Grand Loop Road, while still being a bit off the beaten track, providing the best of all worlds: comfort, solitude and accessibility! Unlike the Canyon and Old Faithful Village areas, the lodging and food choices at the Lake Village are more limited, but so are the crowds--definitely a much quieter area than those other two villages.
The Lake Lodge provides a decent cafeteria (think Disney counter service, but less expensive: for $6 the turkey dinner was enough for an adult woman) a cozy lobby with fireplace, and a large front porch with multiple rocking chairs and an expansive view of the lake and wildlife that frequently wander by (we saw mule deer and bison and our friends saw a bear!) A short walk away is the Lake Hotel with a fancy dinning room and a bit further is a general store with a counter area where you can get some very good burgers. If you want more selection then you can head to the Canyon area a relatively short drive (about 30 min.) north of the Lake Lodge. The staff at the lodge are very friendly and helpful (our only problem with the room, a clogged toilet, was taken care of in under 10 minutes and the staffperson would not accept a tip). The room (2 queen beds) was ample enough for a family of 4 and filled with nice unexpected extras (benches at the foot of each bed, a small table and chairs and a hair dryer). The room was also very clean and had plenty of electrical outlets for recharging camera, video, laptop and phone batteries (no need to bring an extension cord if staying in the Western cabins).
For those who prefer a more quiet and secluded Yellowstone experience, but without the "roughing it" of camping, this is the perfect place to stay!

Thank you for spending your family vacation at Lake Lodge Cabins last summer and for taking time to share your experience. We're pleased that you enjoyed a comfortable stay and that you found our staff friendly and helpful. The large front porch at Lake Lodge is the ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring. Good point you make that this region is one to consider for those looking for a more quiet and secluded Yellowstone experience.

The cabin that we got reminded me of the pictures of concentration camps. No lie. The room was beyond terrible. They should really just knock them down. Horrible. Dirty. There was toilet paper stuffed in the windows to keep either the cold or the bugs out. The lodge looked beautiful, but these cabins were beyond horrible. Skip these cabins. Even at the low price, they aren't worth it. Camping would be a better option.

Thank you for visiting Lake Lodge Cabins last summer and providing your review. I apologize for the poor condition of your cabin. This is unacceptable and not consistent with the level of service we provide. I have shared your observations with management. Also, please note that we have been renovating a number of these units over the past few years, with another 10 units due to be completed this summer.

Our Frontier cabin was tiny (we were unlucky and got the one that had the shared hot water system in the bedroom) but spotlessly clean and well equipped.

A relic of the early 1900's, the cabins are perfectly adequate and have good mattresses and plenty of hot water. Chipmunks danced in our ceiling all night (wearing Army boots!) but it IS a National Park, so what the hey?

The Lodge itself has everything you could possibly want; bar, laundry, shopping, restaurant, views, tour bookings and bison strolling past. We particularly loved the food in the restaurant.

Dinner in any National Park in Australia would cost more than our cabin and dinner in Yellowstone! We stayed a week and enjoyed it thoroughly, but will get a bigger cabin next trip.

Thanks for sharing your review and for spending your week-long vacation with us. We're pleased that you enjoyed a comfortable stay, albeit in a tiny cabin. Those dancing chipmunks are a bit unpredictable, though. Thanks for putting a positive spin on that!

We stayed in a cottage at the Lake Lodge at Yellowstone. It was very clean and everything inside seemed new and updated. The beds were comfy and there was plenty of room. The Lodge was a nice place to eat. There were plenty of bison walking around between the front of the Lodge and the Lake. The rocking chairs under the wide front verandah were lovely!

I have been at Lake lodge cabins in august 2010 (9/12). The cabin itself is quite simple and small, not good for you if you are looking for luxurious or extremely comfort. The room is comfortable, essential and IN THE PARK! there is no better place to stay in my opinion. The lake area is great. the lodge cafetteria and services are very good. stuff is excellent! we met a squirrel living on our roof we saw 3 bears with cubs, wolves, coyotes, really really cool place! and of course bisons and deer etc!!!!! in the lake area we saw ducks and every place except mammoth hot springs is quite close. dont miss the sunrise!
the restaurant is good both for lunch and dinner. breakfast too is good. they have almost everything you may want to eat.
Ps for people coming from abroad like me (italy) please note that there is no mobile coverage in the area for italian mobiles at least. just buy an international phone card at the gift shop and you can call from the lake lodge telephone, left of the check in desk. Ask the clerk.

We loved our stay at the Lake Lodge Western Cabins. The cabins are all brand new on the inside (bath fixtures, carpet, furniture) and they are located in the most peaceful and quiet part of the park. The lodge was also very, very nice and the food was very good - much better than we imagined it would be. We would definitely stay here again on a return trip.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nicely done with two double beds. The bathroom was larger than the one in the cabin at Canyon. Nice vaulted ceiling. We had a small table and a coffee pot. I would recommend this cabin and this area.
