Our cabin was small and did need some attention - flaking paint, dripping sink, but we understood that it's the end of the season and the issues would likely be addressed during the off season. The price point, location and the view of the lake are what really make this place.

The real gem is the lodge itself. The rocking chairs are constantly filled with people enjoying the view and sharing about their days. The lobby has two fireplaces and very comfortable furniture. The day before our arrival some guests saw a grizzly!

The cafeteria had a variety of options and the food was surprisingly good for cafeteria style.

They look very rustic and basic from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised when we went in. Small but cosy and seemed clean. We were only staying one night and just needed somewhere to sleep so having a strong hot shower in the cabin was a surprise and a bonus. The real plus point about these cabins is that they give you the opportunity to get out early into the Hayden Valley to see the wildlife. The people who complain about the accommodation seem to be forgetting that they are supposed to be sleeping in a Wilderness area and should be gratedful for anything that beats camping in a tent.

The Lake Lodge Cabins are definitely not the nicest, prettiest, or best rooms you can stay at in Yellowstone, but I found my cabin to be comfortable and loved my experience at Yellowstone. Since we did not spend any significant amount of time in our cabin, as there is too much to do and see in the park, the lake lodge cabins perfectly suited our needs. They are nothing special to look as, especially compared to some of the lodging at Old Faithful. It was small, but not too small. You can call it cozy. I appreciate Xanterra's efforts to recycle and use paraben-free products in their lodging. The cabins are a short walk to the Lake Lodge and to Yellowstone Lake. The Lake Hotel is just down the road, but I must say that I preferred the rugged, Old West feel of the Lake Lodge over the formal-ness of the Lake Hotel. And the Lake Lodge Cabins are much cheaper than the Lake Hotel cabins, both of which are located near parking lots and do not have views of the Lake from your cabin. The Lake Lodge Cabins are also pretty much the best budget option in the park, besides camping. Some of the other cabins within the same price range do not have their own bathrooms.

The Lake Lodge has a great porch with lots of chairs to take in the view. There are 2 fireplaces inside the Lodge, as well as a bar and more seating areas, a laundry room, a gift shop and the cafeteria. The cafeteria is nothing to write home about, but that is to be expected of cafeteria food. We ate a dinner and a breakfast there, and it was fine. We had lunch at the Lake Hotel dining room, and that received mixed reviews. I must say that my portabella mushroom sandwich was pretty tasty. There is also a deli in the Lake Hotel, but I did not eat there. I did have a drink at the Lake Hotel bar, and we sat and listened to a piano player in the lounge one night. It was quite nice.

This was our first trip to Yellowstone, and we found Lake Village area a good place to stay. We made it around most of the park in 2 days, but we missed Mammoth Hot Springs, since it was almost on the opposite end of the park. We entered from the East entrance, via Cody WY, so it took us almost an hour to reach the Lake village from the East Entrance (almost 2 hours from Cody), but this is the closest Village with Lodging from the East Entrance.

The only thing that I would complain about is that although house keeping came every day to our cabin, they obviously did not vacuum the carpet during our stay. It was fine the 1st day we were there, but after hiking around all day and tracking in dirt into your cabin, it would be nice to have it vacuumed every day. So... bring slippers.

We were going cross country from NH to CA on a motorcycle and this was the only room in Yellowstone for the night. We loved it !! As we drove up a buffalo was outside the door. Sure it's small but it is a place to sleep, shower and stay in side the park. Bed was only a double but we made do. Everything was very clean. Plenty of hot water for showers and it was great to open the windows and let the fresh air in. The porch at the Lodge was a great place to sit and relax with such a wonderful view of the lake, deer,& bison. Ate inside at the Lodge and the food was fine for cateteria food. Lot's of young college kids work inside the park and do a great job. We enjoyed our stay and tried to get another night but no luck !!

Room Tip: When you check in ask for an end room.

The cabins were very nice and I had no complaint. No view but clean and an easy walk to the lodge and lake. The fine dining room at the near by Yellowstone Hotel was way way too much money for the quality of the meal. The cafeteria food at the Lake Lodge was barely okay...nothing more than a meal to conquer your hunger....The bar and lobby was nice though. Snow Lodge food has this place beat by a long shot...but the location was good, and I would gladly stay again considering there are not too many choices in the Park.....Also, one expects to pay too much to stay in the park and it is well worth staying in the park...
