Fewer Photographers and loads of Wildlife Viewers with bins and scopes that they shared.

They pointed out what was where. Shared what had been seen, when, where etc etc . Just a joy. An absolute delight. Thank you so much.

While many visit Yellowstone for the scenery, more and more are visiting for the wildlife. And, the wildlife is plentiful, diverse, accessible, and outstanding. And, the Lamar Valley, is the best place to find them.

Without much effort, encounter eagles, bison, sheep, elk, and a variety of other birds. With a little more effort, and some luck, otters, wolves, coyotes, bear, moose, beaver and a variety of pocket sized critters.

The grasslands are much more open than the south of the park creating many more viewing opportunities.

For some of the rarer animals, do yourself a favor, and book a specialist guide like those at Yellowstone Wolf Tracker. While they specialize in wolves, they have the knowledge and equipment to help you find, and get closer to, many of the less obvious inhabitants. Trust me, money very well spent when you hire the right guide.

I enjoyed Lamar Valley although I did see more wildlife in Hayden Valley. I am sure it varies because after all they are wild. The only wolf we saw in Yellowstone was during an early morning visit to Lamar. I would love to see the valley in the winter.

Yellowstone is a magnificent place. From Old Faithful to the Canyon to the buffalo it is well worth the effort to visit. It is amazing to see buffalo in the wild. We loved every minute.

Late afternoon and evening allows you to see lots of wildlife. Heard that morning is also good but did not try it. We got to see lots of bisons and deers(3 different kinds). There was a black bear far away which could be seen only with binoculars. People looking at it were kind enough to allow us to have a look at it.The valley itself was also very beautiful.
