“Animal lovers dream!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Lamaar Valley was our favorite place in YNP. We had only planned 3 days in Lamaar, but found ourselves cancelling other plans to extend it or return for a day. If you love watching animals, this is the place. However, if you want to see more than bison & pronghorn, stop at the pullouts anytime you see someone with a scope. It almost always means there's a wolf somewhere. Talk to these people(most are happy to share their knowledge and even their scopes), learn the local names of the pullouts or locations, find where certain animals frequent and what time of day. If you only have a day to spend in Lamaar, consider booking a tour with Wolf Tracker Inc. It's a bit pricey ($480/day for up to 6 people), but it's a sure fire way to see a ton of animals in Lamaar. We saw about 15 different species of animals on our tour.

“Yay for Bison!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Going to this area didn't disappoint for Bison spotting and it was midday. I'd have loved to go in the morning- may have seen more variety of wildlife! Glad we made it to this area of the park.

“Lamar the home of the animals”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

This was what I imagined Yellowstone would be like. Vast expanse of land with lots of wildlife just waiting for you to stop and view it. There was so many buffalo herds that it was impossible for cars to keep moving. People were somewhat impatient after taking a few photos they just wanted to clear the road. Plan for lots of stopping time in Lamar, , being forced to stop for the animals on the road, or just stop and watch the animals near the road, on the hill; in the water; on a nest. Many pul loffs for hikes are a available. Next time I will spend many days in this section of the park. I thought early in the day would be our best viewing time, but we were there from 9 am until 3 pm and there was plenty of animal viewings all during that time.

“Away from the Crowd”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We were at Yellowstone for six days. On our fifth day we drove to Lamar Valley and had a picnic. The landscape is a change from the western part of the park. We found a beautiful area along a bold stream that was private and scenic.
