“Beyond our travel plans, but certainly worth it!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Dragon's Mouth is incredible! No ocean within hundreds of miles, and yet here are waves crashing against the walls of a cave.... We had just come from the Oregon Coast and this reminded us of the Devil's Punch Bowl. The crashing waves, the roaring of the gasses escaping from within the bowels of the earth to be released at this place were simply electrifying.
The previous day we had entered Yellowstone from Grand Tetons, driven on up through the Old Faithful area and exited the park on the west side. This day we entered the park from the Northern side (Good Burgers in Gardiner - right on main street!) and were even more impressed than we had been by Old Faithful. Don't miss this area of the park - even if it isn't really what you planned on seeing, add it to your itinerary.

“Nasty-smelling stop; highly recommended”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

This small basin is found between Canyon and Fishing Bridge right next to the loop road. It is well worth the stop since some the of the features are pretty unusual. There is a lot of bubbling mud, steam, and sulfur odor -- what's not to like?

Black Dragon was quite active when we were there and was spraying a lot of hot mud around. I don't know if this is normal, but it was interesting.

The two-loop hike itself is a doozy. On one loop, you climb up one ridge of a hill and come back down another. I would not want to take a wheelchair up that hill. The lower loop is much friendlier.

“Ignore the sulphur smell and enjoy”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

Luckily the trail was open when we arrived as there were two bison relaxing inside the boardwalk area. To miss the opportunity of seeing all the boiling mud would have been a disappointment.

Loved Dragon's Mouth. Could have done without the sulphorous smell as we walked clockwise around the basin.

“Amazing”

If you ever thought of taking a mud bath, do not take it here. If you ever wanted to see mud bubbling this is the place to go. My favorite part of this site is Dragons Mouth. It really reminds you of a dragon in a cave. The area also have two different types of trail, one which is easy for anyone to use. The other is a little longer, about half a mile, but is very interesting. On the 1/2 mile loop we saw two bisons laying near the geysers. I love driving through this area when it is a little cool and dark. This is when you can see the steam coming up from the geysers. Beautiful site!!!!!!!!
