This lodge is next to Old faithful geyser and has an imposing facade - it really is an impressive building, inside and out.

The rooms are pretty basic though, and ours was right at the end of a long corridor / stairs / corridor. Very dated too.

The buffet breakfast was a bit of a ripoff - you could only choose from a few inedible things, if you wanted to order somethign else it was pricey. We ate at night as well, better, but still fast food fodder.

Wish we'd done the hotel tour up into the rafters, we just didnt know about it till it was too late.

You cant beat the location, but it was almost as if you were on a school camping trip and they had decided that there weren't going to be any frills.

This hotel is a national icon and is right outside old faithful. We stayed for 4 nights in one of the "newer" double rooms with a private bath. The rooms are very basic with two double beds and a normal sized bath. Probably on par with a best western or holiday inn. If you considered the room in a vacuum they are definitely not worth the price. That being said the location is amazing and very convenient to both the north side and south side of the park. There are a variety of dining options within walking distance, though none of them stand out. The dining room of the inn had pretty good food but again the price is pretty steep for nothing special. We had relatives on the trip with us who got the older rooms with shared bath accomodations at less than half the price. If you don't mind walking down the hall to the shower the rooms were still pretty nice and you get the location!

Room Tip: The older rooms have shared bath but if you don't mind they are much cheaper!

Ok, I have to admit, I have never stayed at the Old Faithful Inn. However, I have languished there on several occasions. Perhaps it is that I was first there at 18 years of age, back in 1975. Or perhaps it is simply a love of historic energy, the fact that so many people from so many places have moved through this awe-inspiring construct. Do yourself a favor and take an hour of your time at Yellowstone to grab a cup of coffee in hand, a good book, and sit on the second floor of the lobby and be lazy and watch people and listen to the sounds, smell the smells, think of all those before you... the log building is a world class architectural wonder in my humble opinion, and it is located in my favorite National Park.

Room Tip: This is a place you stay to join the memories of those before you, not a place if you are seeking hi...

Wish I had been honest with myself about the whole historical thing. I would have been happy just to visit the hotel and not stay there. We had a basic room with a bath. The room and bath were teeny tiny. I was miserable. I totally recommend participating in the hotel tour. The history is remarkable - I didn't need to stay at the OFI to experience it.

Room Tip: Stay at the Snow Lodge instead.

I wanted to stay here for a long time. I am very much in historic and special lodgings...as they usually make your stay.

4 nights here in a room that was around $175.00 + tax a night.

Parking is free. Pulling up to the Inn is very nice...it makes you feel you are someplace special. Lobby is large size and VERY loud ...with all the guests and day people visiting. Very large fireplace off to the side with rockers. Check-in was easy. Our room was on the 2nd floor...up the rickety stairs. Indoor/outdoor carpeting is in the halllways and rooms. The room resembled more of a motel room. Basic bathroom was SPARTAN...tub with hand held shower. It was cold even though it was summer. You could hear the people talking in the adjacent rooms and hallways. Pretty LOUD. No closet. If you opened the one window, the workers were down on the back lawn drinking, smoking, talking...the noise and smell carrried. Should not have been for sure.

Restaurant was really not that good. Even though it is in a National Park, it is quite some money to dine here. Make it a special evining...NO, most people were wearing their dirty, smelly clothes & sneakers from hiking, walking, sightseeing, etc. Kids crying...parents ablivious. Service was sad...and really, so was the food. Drinks on the other hand were ok...can not really do nothing bad to a glass of wine :) The bar was worse...even though it COULD have been very nice & special. Service sucked. Alot of the workers were in there drinking...dressed in their crude clothing(again, I KNOW it is a park). No music, no candles, no atmosphere, no nothing. Dayside food court was not good. We did not eat there.

On the very good side, there is a cocktail "lounge"...more an area, that is outside on the roof of the entrance. It overlooks Old Faithful Geyser. Again folks...mind your kids. Not everyone is in love with them and wants to hear them. Have consideration for others. Well, sitting there with cocktail in hand...2 beautiful bison and their 2 babies ran right in front of Old Faithful Geyser, and it was going off, and stood...as if to say...HERE IS YOUR SPECIAL PHOTO OP. People were oohing and awwing...it was something.

Alot to walk to from the Inn...

I am glad we experienced this historic Inn...but most likely, will not stay here again. We will just come for cocktails and the outside view.

Room Tip: Ask for a Quiet room if there is one.

Room is basic and lodge like... Due to the locality, i had problem accessing internet and cellphone signals in yellowstone park.
The inn is just beside old faithful geyser, best spot, and the most affordable within the few lodgings within the park.
at night, it is pitch dark in yellowstone, so please drive slowly and beware of the bisons, we missed out just by 5-10 cm at a sharp turning.
breakfast is ok, main attraction for this inn is nonetheless the location.
a must try if you intend to spend the night in the national park

Had just a basic room looking onto the interior grounds of the hotel. But the reason for coming here was not the hotel but the surrounding area. Its unique location gives access not just to Old Faithful but to walks and other springs in the area.

When you walk in the first impression is that it everything is big. The space, the furniture, the logs (are they fake?). Along with many others we sat and had a cocktail watching Old Faithful one last time before the dark set in. We did not have a reservation for dinner but ate late so they got us in. The food was good and service good.

Next morning breakfast was good. But get down early before the queue starts to form, to get in and then to get to the buffet. For the size of the breakfast room they need to reorganise the way the buffet is laid out.

Reception were very helpful with giving suggestions on where to go and we took a walk up into the hills for another amazing view of Old Faithful.

On check out when asked if the room was ok we mention in passing that our guest, a mouse, had also found it ok. A double take from them and we said we had no problem with it and understood what you are out in the middle of the wilds and what do you expect. Apparently some of the American guest seem to forget this!
