We stayed in Yellowstone for three nights, each at a different lodge as availability was limited when we booked. At the Canyon Lodge, we stayed in a western cabin, a 4-plex configuration. Our room was at the back (away from the parking lot) and was very quiet. It was a large room with two queen beds, table and chairs, and a small but satisfactory bathroom. It was very clean with a nice western theme. We had plenty of room for our bags, cooler, fishing rods, and other gear. It was not close to the main office or public area, so we drove each way. We had dinner in the Canyon Lodge dining room; there are no reservations but we only had a short wait. The food and service were both good. The area around the lodge was fun to explore, and an evening drive to the grand canyon was beautiful. We would stay there again.

We booked a 4-night stay in Canyon Village nearly a year in advance via the Xanterra website and paid one night as a deposit. We booked a Standard room and at the time of booking did not know if the room would be in Cascade or Dunraven Lodge. On arrival we were allocated room 220 on the 1st floor in Cascade Lodge (called 2nd floor as there are no ground floors in US), there are stairs only and no lift but this was not a problem. If you need a lift ask for a room in Dunraven Lodge at the time of booking - the Lodge has exactly the same rooms but with a lift in the building.

We were a bit apprehensive based on previous TA reviews but were pleasantly surprised to find a modern room looking freshly decorated. There were 2-double beds in a good size room with coffee making facilities although no TV or fridge (who wants that anyway in the middle of Yellowstone National Park!). There was a good supply of toiletries including cute soap bears but the bathroom a bit small. There is an ice machine and vending machines on each floor. There is no wifi on site simply as Canyon Village and accommodation is so remote but it is available in the public area of Lodge (costs of $4.95 per hour, $11.95 per 24 hrs, $18.85 per 72 hours) and useful to note that 2-people can use the same code which we did not realise at first.

We had hoped to use the laundry at Canyon campsite but it had closed a week earlier - the whole of Canyon Village shut down on 22nd of September as it was end of season. We chose a room in the Lodge which was cheaper than the cabins and we were glad we had as the cabins which sound quite romantic are basically characterless green corrugated buildings attached in groups of 2 or 4. The local wildlife - bison and elk often wandered into the car parks around the Lodges and cabins and so the Lodges also felt a bit more secure!

The food options are somewhat limited in Canyon Village as the sittings often get busy so a pager system to call waiting diners is operated. The limited choice of food contains a lot of fried options so this is the area we found let the accommodation down, especially as there are no facilities in the Lodge rooms to store or eat food bought in the general stores. However, the Lodge rooms are perfectly satisfactory an I would have no problem booking one of these again if we were lucky enough to visit Yellowstone again in the future.

Room Tip: Don't bother with the cabins, they have no character, go for the comfort of the Lodge

My wife & I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of June 2013, we were greeted by warm & friendly staff at reception, and we were very pleased with our room in Cascade Lodge. The room was really clean, well appointed, and had a great view over the forest. No tv or wifi (we already knew that) and to be honest it was nice to have the peace & quiet! We ate at the Lodge restaurant which was OK but nothing sensational. The bar area was friendly, super staff who had time for you, which is always nice. OK the cost of accommodation and food in the park is high, you know that before going, but the benefits of staying in the park outweigh the cost. We would not hesitate to return if we visited Yellowstone again.

We stayed in a Frontier Cabin for two nights. The fourplex configuration did a good job of mitigating the noise from the other 3 units. The room was clean and comfortable. Since we were staying here for the location, it was exactly what we wanted - a nice place to stay with a shower while we visited the magnificence of Yellowstone Canyon and Falls. While it is not on any maps and the employees and rangers do not mention it, there is an old abandoned bike path/trail running just beyond the row of cabins above the loop road that takes you to the North Rim of Yellowstone Canyon (this is also the path that takes you to Canyon Village). If you are an experienced hiker, it is a great way to get to the North Rim.

If you are taking kids, download some videos for them. You will be totally unplugged here. But, where else will you have to wait for a bison to pass before you enter the room. The rooms are very basic and you may or may not have a bath, so check first. It is so worth staying right in the park. The cafeteria food was okay. We did a last minute booking through the lodge and were able to get a cancelled room. So check it out
