“A place to lay your head...”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

Stayed one night in the lodge, standard room, and one night in a Frontier cabin. The lodge room had a few more amenities, i.e. coffee in the room, etc., but it was sleeping in a dorm. The cabin was like staying in a converted tool shed. We didn't mind; in fact we thought the accommodations were fine considering that we waited until the last minute to book our rooms. There are some very nice lodges in Yellowstone. Do your research and book way ahead.

We spent two nights in this location and had no complaints about the accommodation. We had plenty of space in the room unlike our cabin at Mammoth.

It was a short walk through the trees to the shops and eateries and the re-roofing work did not disturb us.

This lodging is one of several in Yellowstone National Park and is one of the least expensive (although all lodgings are somewhat high for the amenities). The location is good for touring the park but it does help to check in before dark so that you can more easily find your 'cabin'. This visit, we were in the 'C' groupings and the room was very clean and beds very comfortable. As stated by other reviewers, there is no phone, TV, frig air conditioning or microwave. However, our room had great cross-ventilation and the supplied fan really helped the room cool off after a very warm day. The front desk staff was very help. We were staying there on an anniversary trip and the staff gave us a box of huckleberry cordials as a treat. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: Check in during the day. Ask for a room with the least number of steps.

This is basic accomodation. The layout is such that you are at he mercy of your neighbors as far as noise/sleep. We were kept awake a lot. There is no phone so you have to have phone service to call the front desk and you go through the switchboard for all the hotels.

It definitely smelled bad so we left the windows open until dark.

We has 3 people in a room with one queen- when I booked in April I was told we could have a cot but they discontinued the fit policy without telling us. So we had one person on the floor with extra blankets. The queen bed was so bad that after the first night, we had two people sleeping on the floor and one in the bed.

My biggest complaint was the housekeeping. We stayed 5 nights and they only bothered to make the bed twice. They never replaced the towels with the same amount you started with and several times left wet towels on the floor in the bathroom. Our last night in the park we were left with not even 1 full set of towels for 3 people- just 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, and a floor towel. We came back from a full day of hiking and it took 3 phone calls and 50 minutes to get more towels. I was irate because I was dirty and starving and not willing to use the towel my 2 kids had to share.

We pulled in late at night and had some trouble finding our cabin as it was not as clearly marked as we would have liked. A central porch served 4 csbins. The cabin was very clean but do not expect tv, microwave and fridge. The beds were comfortable. The sink was separate from the shower and toilet, which speeds things up in the a.m. Location was very good.

We just returned from a 5-night stay in a Frontier Cabin at Canyon Village. While the exterior of the cabin could use some paint, the interior was very clean. As other reviews have stated, there's nothing fancy here--but since we were only there to sleep, it was perfect. The room had two double beds & one roll-away twin--tight, but ideal for our family of five.

We also brought most of our own food which we piled on the desk & the radiator that wasn't in use. You can't cook in the room, but we asked and were allowed to use an electric tea kettle to boil water--perfect for making oatmeal for breakfast & hot drinks for those cool morning & evenings. You can also use a propane stove at a certain distance outside the cabin. We did eat one night at the Canyon Soda Fountain (in the General Store) and had one of the best cheeseburgers of our lives--quick and friendly service too! And the Huckleberry ice cream from the picnic/deli store is amazing!

The very best thing about Canyon Village, though, is it's location in the park. The main road through the park makes a figure "8" and Canyon is right in the middle--making it a great base for exploring. We would definitely stay in Canyon again & recommend it to others.

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge Canyion frontier cabin in early July, we had booked over six months first, in relation to the cost of Motel of West Yellowstone and the distance from the park.
The Canyon Lodge is located in the best place to start visit around the park early in the morning.
Sleeping in the Park allows you to be on the road soon and be able to capture the moments in which the animals are visible up close, opportunities that during the day, the heat and the many tourists that increases, decreases, and this allowed us to photograph a beautiful Cinnamon Black Bear on the edge of the road at six o'clock in the morning.
The Frontier Cabin log cabins are very basic but of good size and equipped with bathroom, cleaning has been good.
Example of location of housing is natural that under the construction of the first three Cabin used as a warehouse and ice maker, spent the hottest hours of the day a Mule Deer.
I believe that equipping the rooms with a microwave and a coffee machine would make the stay better.
