Biscuit Basin is one of my favorite places in Yellowstone. It offers an easy and short, less than 0.5 mile hike on boardwalks. But what I really love about BB, is that it's the starting point to Mystic Falls.
BB is about 2 miles north of the Old Faithful clover leaf. At the BB parking lot, cross the bridge and follow the boardwalk through the basin. Be sure to take time to stop and see Jewel Geyser. It’s a small performer, but erupts every 10 minutes with bursts that can each over 20 feet high.
At the rear of BB leave the boardwalk near the point furthest from the parking lot and look for the sign “Mystic Falls Trail”. Round trip is less than 3 miles. You initially walk through burned but re-growing forest (from the 1988 fires). Follow the trail along the river to Mystic Falls. Once at the Falls don’t turn around and go back the same way you came. Follow the trail up. After a few switchbacks you come out at an observation point where you overlook the entire Old Faithful area. You are at the top looking down, and the views are wow - Old Faithful erupting to your right, Biscuit Basin below, Midway Geyser Basin to your left, the Snake River winding below with buffalo grazing all along. There is even a bench at the top so you can sit and take it all in. From the observation point the trail leads back to BB, completing the loop.
