First trail ride ever for 3 of our family of 4 (mom, dad and girls 11 and 13). We all had a good experience. The half day ride at Swan flats and the Hoodoos in Yellowstone lasted about 3.5-4 hours. Shannon and Abby gave clear instructions for how to ride and interact with the horses safely. The horses seemed well cared for. The ride involved some steep trails and at one point a herd of elk stampeded TOWARD us. Some horses went up the side of the hill, one went down. We were able to get all of them under control fairly easily. Considering our level of inexperience, that speaks highly of the level of training of the horses. we were served a picinic lunch at a beautiful spot with a unique feature (don't want to give it away). Both Shannon and Abby, clearly, were very experienced riders with a great knowledge of the area we were riding in. I would recommend this ride for anyone with a realistic idea of a trail ride. It was a little scary when the trail was steep in some places. That was part of the fun, but if your party has young children it may be too scary. I was impressed with the level of instruction. We went on 2 more trail rides and Shannon's preparation for the ride was by far the most extensive and informative. It was difficult to take pictures while riding, but some before and at lunch pictures were worth carrying the camera. The scenery was awesome and was special since the only way to see things as we saw them was from the back of a horse.
