Owner description: A 140-mile scenic drive past some of Yellowstone's most famous sites.

This road will basically take you around the rim of the caldera. Its a great chance to observe the thermal activity in the Yellowstone basin. If you visit in Fall, the best pictures can be taken in the early morning, when the steam from the pools and geysers is very visible, and also has created frost on the nearby vegetation.

The Grand Loop road takes you just about everywhere you need to go in Yellowstone, and provides some pretty amazing scenery on the way! Everywhere you need to stop is marked very well, and in advance. I would call this road very 'user-friendly!' Expect delays due to animal crossings (and sometimes rude people who dont know how to park) but taking it slow is half the fun.

We got to hit all the popular sites and saw lots of animals;bear, deer, bison, long horn sheep, elk. Went on a Saturday in early May so the traffic wasn't too bad. If you see cars stopped on the side, make a stop also, they have spotted some wild life.

Saw lots of bison, elk (mammoth) and even got to see an alpha female feed odd of her morning kill. Rangers were great in giving info of where she was at and encouraging us to wait for her return...which she did return. Even without wildlife, it's a wonderful drive.

Taking this drive is like being in Jurassic Park. I cannot believe it took us this long to go here. I still dream about it almost every night! Don't try stalking the Bison--you'll get hurt.
