Take the drive.........it helps you get a perspective on all the park.......we stayed four days, and we covered the grand loop, and all the entrances and exits. AWESOME

We walked this loop- against the traffic flow. Didn't see anyone else walking! It is an interesting loop with lots of different landscape features. Well worth a look.

An obvious route if your time is limited, but it's hard to not take some of the "side loops." The "YELLOWSTONE EXPEDITION GUIDE" is a great aid and can help you see the most in a short period of time.(The park recommends this pub). You'll find gas, food and picnic spots at major areas on the Loop. Scenery abounds, but you can be slowed with bison crossing and traffic stopped for wildlife viewing.

If you have but one day to spend in Yellowstone, drive the Grand Loop Road. You will get a great perspective on this beautiful place.

The figure 8 loop around Yellowstone Park exceeded our expectations. Being used to roads in the UK with missing road names, T junctions that leave you with nothing and cross roads that you wait ages at with not a car in sight; this network of roads was so easy to navigate even driving on what for us, was the wrong side of the toad in a left-hand drive car! The roads are nice and wide with so many pull offs you can stop almost anywhere without causing a traffic jam. At each junction the lane splits so that you can either turn left or continue straight on and at each cross road junction, everyone has to stop as there aren’t any lights, but everything works like clockwork and everyone takes their turn. The signposting at each junction is clear, telling you what the next attraction, visitor centre or hotel is ahead and every trail head and camp ground is also sign posted. Public restrooms are sighted at many of the pull offs and picnic areas, but these are what they call Dry toilets, think hole in-the-ground with a loo on top! The facilities at the visitors centres, cafes etc are normal loos! You really can’t get lost on this system of loops (unless your husband is like mine and takes over the map reading!)
